Customer comments
- InDesign lags when rearranging text boxes, adding image frames, adjusting frames that already exist
- Selecting an item (e.g. text frame) in small and really uncomplicated documents has slight but very noticeable delays/lags, almost as if the click hangs and makes the item drag a little instead of just being selected.
- Performance degradation is observed if more than 1 document is opened
- Creating packages (File > Package) takes so much time – especially collecting image files into the Links-folder. This behavior is generally observed with Illustrator files.
- Performance degradation is observed while working on indd document and not with the IDML of the indd document.
- Lag observed for almost every action from selecting objects, resizing objects, or moving objects
Troubleshooting steps tried to resolve issues
- Disable 3rd party plugins - One of the customer has tried with Suitcase Fusion but there was no improvement in the performance.

Since updating to ID 15.1.2 creating packages (File > Package) takes sooooo much time – especially collecting image files into the Links-folder. Feels like using a last century internet connection to copy them instead of a ssd. Really bad: There's no progress shown on the progress bar. The only way to figure out that ID still works ist to check the Links-folder again and again where you can see the files dropping in one after another … -

As per the customer, the issue is no longer reproducible.

ID crashes when trying to let InDesign create about 100 additional pages with auto flow on the primary text frame from a placed docx. Can't attach the file due to my customer's copyright policy. -

The fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign – that is, InDesign 15.0.2.
Please update your InDesign application to get this fix.

Adobe InDesign teamAn error occurred while saving the comment Thorsten Rösch-Allgeier commentedThe available beta fixed the undo functionality, but as bad as this bug: It won't export some of my files to pdf. Error message: "PDF konnte nicht geschrieben werden" (PDF couldn't be created) – very helpful. Really cool: When trying to delete the error message the beta crashes. Every time. Already submitted documents, crash reports and screen captures. Still there's only one solution for me: Continue using ID2019 until my customers switch to Affinity Publisher. I'm already using it for my own projects and I'm very happy with it (as with Affinity Photo, too).

An error occurred while saving the comment Thorsten Rösch-Allgeier commentedLooks good! I tested the same document with identical steps on 15.0.1 (bug showed up) and 15.0.2.304 (everything's fine).
Thank you so much.An error occurred while saving the comment Thorsten Rösch-Allgeier commented@Bertrand Richter @fsm Linked text frames with auto adjust are also part of the documents I worked on when this disgusting behavior showed up. This is a key feature to me and as long as there is no reliable fix I have to go on with ID2019.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thorsten Rösch-Allgeier commentedAfaik there's no fix yet. For me using ID2019 instead is the only way to be aware of this.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thorsten Rösch-Allgeier commentedHi Ravi Kiran, there are already some screen recordings – see the November 8th comments.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thorsten Rösch-Allgeier commented@fsm: Thank you for your response, I'll continue using CC2019 until here's a fix.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thorsten Rösch-Allgeier commentedHi Török, maybe you discovered the same issue than this one:
https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/38991835-undo-not-working-properly-in-indd-2020An error occurred while saving the comment Thorsten Rösch-Allgeier commentedCoincidentally I found out that ID2020 hasn't had full disk access and since I activated it, this error didn't show up anymore. I'm not sure if this is a real solution or if I'm just a lucky guy, so please – Pierre, Andy, Kevin (and you guys at adobe) – could you check this, too and tell if it works for you?

An error occurred while saving the comment Thorsten Rösch-Allgeier commentedThere is another bug that shows up after this issue occurred: Text that flows in two linked text boxes doesn't wrap automatically anymore when changing the size of the first text box. You have to fit the box size with [cmd]+[alt]+[C] to adjust the text flow.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thorsten Rösch-Allgeier commentedThis happens to me reproducible after right-click on a placed image > "edit with" > "Affinity Photo".

Ok, it looks like this is NOT an InDesign problem. Here’s my setting that causes the problem:
I’m using a local folder with all subfolders encrypted by Boxcryptor. They are synced with OneDrive. When packing into these encrypted folders it takes hours to complete. But packing to an unencrypted folder runs perfect, even when it is synced with OneDrive. So it seems that there is a problem with Boxcryptor – but in a strange way: When packing to an encrypted external SSD there’s no problem. And copying the result back into the encrypted synced OneDrive folder even runs on regular speed. Only packing directly into the OneDrive-synced encrypted folders slows it extremely down.
If anybody else has the same issue, here’s my workaround: Create packages to unencrypted folders and move the final package manually into the encrypted target folder.
@Adobe: Please close this thread as solved.
