Duplicated layers when placing Illustrator files
When an Illustrator file is placed in InDesign, the tab with Layer options shows multiple versions of the same layers. The number of layers is multiplied by the number of artboards.
I see this issue with newly created Illustrator files. The older .ai files are placed correctly.

@Matt Roche
This is NOT an InDesign bug. It is a bug in Illustrator's background features.
Illustrator's background features should always be disabled.Reference:

6 months later and this is still not fixed. Very frustrating.

This is an Illustrator 2026 (30.0.0) bug, and the cause is Illustrator’s new “Quick Save” feature. The workaround for this bug is to disable “Quick Save.” To do this, disable “Save in Background” in Preferences. This will likely be fixed in the next Illustrator update.

This is not good! I actually have only 1 layer in my illustrator file but the placed file in Indesign shows multiple versions.

This is a bug on the Illustrator side. It's a bug where Acrobat layers in the PDF compatibility of AI files multiply/proliferate.

これはIllustrator側のバグです。aiファイルの互換PDFのAcrobatレイヤーが増殖してしまうバグです。
