Simple cursor insertion point inaccurate in text
I hover the cursor over the space (between two letters, for example) but the actual insertion point is a letter off, to the left of the intended location.

This issue has persisted for the last two major ID updates (2022 and 2023) for me. Scaling the cursor and/or the interface has no effect.

Yes, this is so annoying.
E.g. If I have a letter, tab character, letter, and then if I click on the tab character to insert a cursor, it will place the cursor on the left, next to letter, before the tab. It only places it to the right, when I move it extremely close to the right letter. This is different behavior from how it works in Word (I work a lot copying, editing and/or pasting between Word and InDesign) and is very annoying. It also used to different in InDesign a few years ago.
What I'm expecting in this case is, when I click on the left side of the tab character, the cursor should be placed before the tab and when I click right side, it should be placed after the tab character.
It's most noticeable for me with tabs, but it's also annoying with words like the OP says. I often must aim very carefully and several times to a text selection I intend.
Text selection is super easy in Word in comparison. It's not perfect, but if I want to select for example 3 full words, it's less aiming and precision required.
Please fix!
