Space character inserted following ligature replacement
Hello,
InDesign v14.0.2 inserts an (inaccessible) space character immediately following a substitution performed by the OpenType "Ligatures" feature. This does not occur in Illustrator, Photoshop, nor any other text layout app I'm using.

I ran into this problem, too (in version 20.3). It seems that the composer needs to keep the glyph count the same as the character count. And that requirement makes in incapable of supporting one to many substitutions.
