Native PDF/UA-compliant export (European Accessibility Act)
With the entry into force on June 28, 2025 of European Directive 2019/882 (European Accessibility Act, EAA), the production of accessible digital documents has become a legal obligation for a wide range of public and private operators working in the European market. The regulation requires that electronic documents — including PDFs — conform to the PDF/UA standard (ISO 14289-1) and the technical standard EN 301 549.
At present, Adobe InDesign is not capable of natively exporting PDFs that are PDF/UA compliant and verifiable with third-party tools such as PAC. This limitation forces professionals to rely on third-party plugins or manual…

How Can I Preserve Image Quality When Converting Slides to PDF?
I’m having trouble keeping image quality high when converting my presentation slides to PDF. Every time I export or print to PDF, the images become blurry or grainy. I already tried using the survival race “Print to PDF” option, but the resolution still drops noticeably.
Does anyone know the best settings or tools to preserve image quality in PDFs?

Export to pdf as print spreads with options for bleed, different binding, etc.
This option should have been baked in from the beginning because when print shops request print spreads we have no easy way to convert since distiller is no longer up to the tast.

Layer configuration export
Title: Option to Disable Specific Layers During PDF Export (Without Changing Document Visibility)
Description:
In many editorial workflows, especially in educational publishing, we work with layered documents that contain both student and teacher content within the same InDesign file.
A common use case is:
- A "Student Version" (without answers)
- A "Teacher Version" (with answers)
Currently, to export the student version, users must manually open each document and disable the "Answers" (or similar) layer before exporting. This becomes extremely time-consuming and error-prone when dealing with dozens or hundreds of files.
Feature Request:
Add an option in the PDF export settings that…

Make custom interactive elements keep their shape when exported to Interactive PDF
If you have a custom interactive element (in the shape of a letter, a circle, triangle, etc.) and export it to an interactive PDF, it converts the custom shape into a square or rectangle every time. Make it so that whatever shape you set in your indesign document is properly mapped and retained in an exported interactive PDF. It would make a good interactive photo mask. I use circles as interactive elements in Indesign directly but it doesn't work when exported. Would be a great feature to have!

I'd like to be able to choose odd or even pages, both when printing and when exporting PDFs. Thanks.

Keep active links when placing PDFs in InDesign
When you place a PDF with text and links into an InDesign file, the links are lost when you export the final file to PDF. This happens because InDesign treats the placed PDF as an image, so the links do not stay active. It would be very useful if the links of a placed PDF could remain active when exporting from InDesign to PDF. Thanks

More controls for exporting form fields to Adobe
When exporting interactive PDFs, please include functions to (1) toggle on/off the highlighting in Adobe; (2) visually manage tab order without having to close and reopen the panel for each page; and (3) enable Reader users to fill-in forms.

Support compressing images with WebP when exporting with Adobe PDF Presets
When exporting a PDF, there are several options to compress images: JPEG, JPEG 2000, ZIP. And we can choose the image quality, from Min to Max. To a degree, PDF file sizes can be reduced with these settings, but at a certain point the image quality is too poor for anything meaningful. WebP has incredibly high quality for a low file size, plus it supports an alpha channel.

Regarding New InDesign PDF Editing Feature
Hi,
I hope this message finds you well.
We recently became aware of a new feature currently in beta within Adobe InDesign, which allows users to open and edit PDF files directly in InDesign. While we understand this can be a powerful enhancement for many workflows, we would like to raise a concern from the perspective of an enterprise customer.
We frequently shares open PDFs with clients and external partners for review and approval purposes. The ability to convert these PDFs into fully editable InDesign files—even in its current limited beta stage—presents a significant risk to the security and integrity…

The source of the alt text should default to the alt text from the image.

convert metadata description to alt text
It would be so helpful if there was an option for image metadata like "description" or "keywords" could be imported as the alt text. Right now we need to go click on every picture to type it in for every document that image is used in and it is time consuming. If I could just add a description in the image in bridge/photoshop and then have that imported as alt text, it would save so much time trying to reprocess all our documents to be accessible.

numbering and sections export without prefix
Very often I include several different documents in one Indesign file, and then export by sections. The downside is that exporting by section includes the prefix in the PDF page numbers, and I have to manually remove the prefix in acrobat. It would be awesome if that feature could be optiona, similar to how it's optional to "include the prefix when numbering pages" which prevents the text variables page numbers from including the preflix.

Repair Print Booklet please
Anyone finding this post will have the same question: why is it so hard to create an imposed .pdf in InDesign? Is it due to license wars?
I know, there is a workaround via .ps and distiller, but this fails, since there is no flexible generic ppd available. If your home printer only prints A4, you are not able to create an A3 .pdf to print at a printshop. Insane.
Please, Adobe, bring (back) this functionality to create imposed .pdf's at any size with the Print Booklet function, even when no printer is available.

Flat PDF made of JPGs
It would be useful to have an option to export PDF in which every page is an image file (JPG or Tiff or...). I would appreciate this because I usually send some draft to my customers and they simply open the file with some PDF editor (or Illustrator) and make changes by themselves.
To prevent this, I just export in JPG format (instead of PDF) from Indesign and then I drop the images into Acrobat and send the PDF as a draft. We could bypass this step having this option as "Flat PDF export".
Thanks.

Include a rollover reveal of the hyperlinks in place.
Checking hyperlinks (i.e. where a button takes you to another page in the document) is time consuming. A rollover reveal of where the hyperlink goes would save an enormous amount of time.
This could also be an Acrobat feature - i.e. once you have exported as an interactive PDF - you can rollover and check there.1 vote -
Add Haitian Creole as an option in the list of languages when creating 508 compliant PDFs. Our business markets to that community.
Our company markets to South Florida communities that speak Haitian Creole. Having that language as an option when creating 508-compliant PDFs would be extremely beneficial.

PDF Password Print (BUG and New Feature)
As suggested by @Abhishek Rao on Adobe community
I report here the problem and the new functionality...PDF Password (BUG and New Feature)
When I export a document to PDF from Indesign (or illustrator), I would need to password protect the Copy/Modification of the elements in my PDF, at the same time allow READING and PRINTING of that PDF document.
All this is currently ALLOWED BY "INDESIGN"! in PDF export.
When I create a PDF with these limitations, I open it in ACROBAT and I can SEE and PRINT IT.
When I try to MODIFY IT, Acrobat asks me for…1 vote -
