I use shortcuts for my paragraph formats quite structured: Command+NumPad-1 is the large headline b.e., Command+NumPad-2 the subline and Command+NumPad3 the main text. If there is an alternate version of these styles, for example a smaller variant or with a different font for certain elements I’d shortcut those with an additional Alt- or Control-key. However, a long description of a shortcut blends away the name in the Format panel – see screen shot attached. It would help if the shortcuts were shortened by displaying them (optionally) with symbols instead of key names, as shown in the second, simulated screenshot in blue. It would probably not help in every case, but in many.
