    JUST DO IT!
    this function is simply essential and “a bit of a shame” for indesign —
    quarkxpress has been able to do this for a long, long, long time...

    The issue has been fixed in the latest release of InDesign – InDesign 2021.
    Please update to this new version of InDesign to get the fix.
