Many internal as well as external factors can cause the InDesign application to crash/freeze/hang. A few workarounds are listed at Fix crash issues with InDesign.
We completed the investigation and came up with the following: Either the issue has been resolved in the most recent release of InDesign (Refer to InDesign Release notes), the issue was intermittent at the time of reporting and is no longer reproducible, or the InDesign version mentioned in the report is no longer covered by Creative Cloud Support Policy.
We would recommend you upgrade to the latest version as it is more robust. If you are still facing this issue even after updating it, either submit the crash report(Refer to Submitting crash reports) to us or Contact Adobe support.

An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedTotally echo this sentiment. I've just discovered, belatedly, that I can't easily restart the endnote numbering with each chapter, as is possible with footnotes.
The book is 400+ pages, so splitting it at this will be laborious and might introduce all sorts of problems.
I realise I should possibly have foreseen the problem, but I simply expected there to be an easy way to restart the numbering...
This endnote feature has taken years for Adobe to introduce, and this is the second time I've used it where it's caused me more work than it's saved. I certainly won't use it again until it's far more user-friendly.
Why introduce a feature after so long, without thinking it through properly? It's annoying, to say the least.

I'm having this problem with one file and I see this issue hasn't been addressed, even though the first post was back in October. Disappointing. Can anybody from Adobe at least attempt to make any suggestions?
