1 voteThank you for reaching out to us. Can you confirm the version of InDesign with which you are facing the issue?
It will be really helpful if you can share a screen recording of the workflow with us. It will give us unambiguous insight into the issue. You can send the video and test files to abkaushi@adobe.com -Abhinav An error occurred while saving the comment Erik Lund

commentedSo ID 2020 was just released. My first project in ID 2020 and this bug still persists! Maybe I should reconsider Quark? An error occurred while saving the comment Erik Lund

commentedI've encountered this issue intermittently for years! The issue pops up randomly, and usually will persist for the remainder of the day regardless of how many times I restart the computer or change file I'm working on.
I'm using a fairly powerful workstation, there should be no reason for the lag.I can confirm I have experienced this issue as far back as CS5.

I'm sorry, I cannot as this would require to much time and resources that we don't have to allocate to this issue. That time was spent unwinding the mess caused by this bug.
I will try to provide a little more detail though. I was using ID2020, converting files from ID2019. I first opened the book, then all the docs contained in the book. I was presented with the typical notification the files would be converted from the previous version, etc. I already had 'auto doc conversion' active in the book panel. Unknowingly, ID opened the originals, and then created a "converted" copy of each file that was opened. So there were 2 versions of the same file open at the same time. Because this was not very apparent until we went to save the book and its individual files (9 chapters x2) that something was wrong. When we saved a file, it would ask if we want to overwrite the existing file of the same name, we answered yes. ID2020 then overwrote the file AND added to the file name "copy". So it didn't just overwrite the file but renamed it also. 'Copy' was only added to some of the file names, not all. (This made a further mess of things as the remedy could not be applied unilaterally.)
This is an absolutely unacceptable behavior for any software program. Overwrite means OVERWRITE, not OVERWRITE & CHANGE SOME OF MY NAMES.
