    a use case: this would be great for setting a publication date to show in a header of, for example, a newspaper, where all pages are separate INDD files managed by a book, and the date is in the future (not handled by existing date fields, that I know of). The workaround I have of a small InCopy file containing just the date, linked in the template / parent pages is a bit fragile

    100% agree with this, 4 years on. I've just pressed the button accidentally, the night before a book of 8 files has to go to the printers, and I have no idea how much it will have changed and where. It's heart-stopping, panic-inducing... honestly it's the worst button I know of in any software, without much exaggeration. This is only the second time I've ever pressed that button and both times were totally by accident. There's no confirmation, no undo, no apparent record / list of changes...
