   Hello there,

   The way to rename in the Layers panel is to click once to highlight, then click again to rename.

   Please see the attachment on how it is to be done.

   I'm having the exact same issue - recording attached. Really tedious when working with lots of objects! Adobe Indesign 16.2.1 MacOS Big Sur 11.4
