    Again Adobe. Watch closely:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAuQ3KsTJck
This is MyDataMerge, an external application for managing data merge in InDesign made by 3 guys. They added so many features to the datamerge including hyperlinks in a few years. Why can't you?

If you need all these features you can use Colins script. If you need more features like Excel support for data merge, theres a handy tool for a small price if you're on macOS, its called mydatamerge

I would like to see this too!!
We found a workaround by using an external tool which comes in really hand (compared to multiple thousand dollar tools). Give mydatamerge a try (https://mydatamerge.com).

You can export interactive (tagged) PDFs to unique filenames from database.
One setup. All done. Great. Adobe have a look.

This would be great to see. Especially images mentioned in the database (and spreaded all over).
As long as this isn't solved in InDesign we use MyDataMerge (https://mydatamerge.com) for macOS to do that - by the way. Adobe have a look - they added many things to the merge you should have done in years!
    Usability. Features. Comfort.
