The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2022(v17.0.0.96). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

Indesign 2021 v16 appears to ignore lock files on every document. It will open them as Read Only on the 2nd machine and allow editing but then cause confusion when the user goes to save but cannot. Students don't quite have the technical knowledge to wrap their head around this problem or how to deal with saving locally and replacing the file. I found forum posts of this back in November. Some machines had this problem due to some being updated a bit more than others and .idlk incompatibility, but now all are on Mac OS 10.14.6 and Indesign v16 all with the issue now. I was hoping by updating it would be fixed but it appears not.
