Subject: Confirmed reproduction on macOS 26.7 / InDesign 21.5.1 and 21.6 — Windows Server SMB Save and Package failure
I am experiencing the same issue described in ID-4273763, but my testing shows that the problem is not limited to Package. Save operations to the Windows SMB server are also affected.
Environment:
* macOS Tahoe 26.7
* Adobe InDesign 21.5.1, also tested with 21.6
* Windows Server 2012
* SMB 3.0.2
* Same Windows SMB share used by our production workflow
Confirmed behavior:
1. Before upgrading the Mac to macOS Tahoe, InDesign worked normally with the same Windows Server, same SMB share, same files, and same workflow.
2. Another Mac that has NOT been upgraded to Tahoe still works correctly with the same Windows Server and the same SMB share.
3. On the Tahoe Mac, opening the same InDesign document from the Windows SMB share is possible.
4. Saving the document directly back to the Windows SMB share fails with an error indicating that InDesign cannot save the file and that the file appears to be damaged.
5. Save As to a local Mac location succeeds with the same document.
6. Save As to our WD NAS / Time Machine location succeeds.
7. Package to a local Mac location succeeds.
8. Package using the Windows SMB environment fails with:
“InDesign could not package the document… Cannot copy publication.”
9. The problem remains after upgrading from InDesign 21.5.1 to 21.6.
10. The problem also remains after upgrading macOS from 26.6.2 to 26.7.
11. After restarting the Mac, the SMB/InDesign problem remains and may require an SMB remount as part of recovery.
12. The issue affects normal production workflows involving Save, Save As, Package, linked files, and in some cases protective shutdown/crash behavior.
This is a very clear A/B reproduction:
* Same Windows Server
* Same SMB share
* Same files
* Same workflow
* Older macOS = works
* macOS Tahoe = fails
* Local Mac storage = works
* WD NAS/Time Machine network storage = works
Therefore, the issue appears to be specifically related to the interaction between macOS Tahoe, InDesign, and the Windows SMB implementation, rather than document corruption or a general inability to write to network storage.
Please investigate this against ID-4273763 and confirm whether this behavior is covered by the existing bug.
I would also appreciate confirmation of:
1. The affected/fixed InDesign version, if a fix is planned.
2. Whether a macOS update is required.
3. Whether there is a supported workaround for Save and Package to Windows SMB shares.
4. Whether the SMB remount/protective-shutdown behavior is part of the same underlying issue.
