After coming to know the truth in the upper world, some may prefer not to return to the prisoners in the cave below. However, Plato further explains that those who have seen the truth must return to the cave and live again among those who remain in darkness. Once accustomed to the light, they must readjust to the shadows and guide others with greater clarity and understanding. The transformed soul is not meant to remain isolated in contemplation but is called to serve the community. True education, therefore, results not only in knowledge but in responsibility. The one who has seen what is right and just and good must govern without selfish desire for power. In fact, Plato argues that the best state is ruled by those who are least eager to rule.
