Another scenario I've encountered is if you want to have a background color for text. You can solve this with paragraph rules and offset the rule a bit to the left and right for a nice bit of colored padding. But if your paragraph or heading is more than one row you'll run into problems, and you'd have to make each line a single paragraph with manual hard returns for it to work on every line of text. If you on the other hand use the underline option to create background color for your text it works perfect with no need for hard returns, but then you can't have the left and right offset/padding. Having the option to outdent/indent the underline feature wold solve this problem. I have tried to illustrate what I'm talking about with an attached pdf file.
