The vast (vast!) majority of features in the Style Options window do not need all that space. As far as I can tell, only the Tabs feature uses up the entire width (though, in that instance, it uses a fraction of the available height). In fact, I suspect the window is as large as it is precisely because of the Tab feature in Paragraph Style Options!
A re-sizable window, in other words, would not disrupt most user workflows.
A re-sizeable window would make previewing MUCH easier, especially when working without a second screen.
An additional benefit is that it allows for MORE space, when needed. I'm thinking in particular of GREP styles, where a user might have a dozen styles being applied, and could benefit from expanding the window vertically.
I am very fond of Paragraph Style Options—it's my preferred way to work. But the large size really does get cumbersome!
