1. Tool for sustainable Design

   Hello dear Adobe team,

   At the moment there is a lot of talk about environmental problems and sustainability. Responsible use is particularly important when it comes to the use of finite and regenerative resources.

   The AGD has developed a charter for sustainability for this purpose. "Designers are largely responsible for
   how our world is shaped. Design shapes, design is a role model and creates
   new awareness. Design consumes resources - sometimes more,
   sometimes less. The sustainable use of natural resources,
   with the environment and with the people who have remained in this world for generations
   should be able to live, design must do justice. "

   Dimensions of sustainable design Sustainable design is:
   - material-efficient and appropriate to the material - energy-efficient - low in pollutants - low or waste-reducing - durable - suitable for recycling and disposal - appropriate for logistics - appropriate for use - socially compatible - economical and successful

   Hence, consideration should be given to orienting the designs to save ink and paper. Could Adobe provide a tool that can measure how much ink is used depending on the printing process and color setting? Thus, the material efficiency of a design could be checked and an optimization of the use of ink via measurable and comparable key figures could be inclined.

2. Indesign has stopped working / turns off when turned on / while document is open / after restoration turns off again

   Hello, I am writing to you asking for help. Since yesterday, adobe indesign has stopped working properly. After creating a new document / or opening a file that I was working on, the program crashes. It gives you a file rollback and shuts down again. Once we managed to turn on the program for a moment, but it was enough to stick to paragraph styles and move the frame, the program turns off immediately. I would ask for info on this matter. Tried installing previous versions, still the same problem; I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program and the situation repeats itself. I am asking for help in this matter.

3. InDesign 16.3.2 not authorised to send Apple events to other apps

   I’m using the InDesign do script AppleScript command to instruct another application to do something.
   Since 16.3 this doesn’t work anymore, because macOS prevents the script from running. Previous versions of InDesign worked fine, after the user allowed InDesign to control the target app.

   Usecase:
   I’m the developer of a font manager and want InDesign to report which fonts are used in a document

   macOS version: 11.3.1
   InDesign version: 16.3.2

   Steps to reproduce:

   1. Reset the macOS Apple Event permissions for InDesign in Terminal:
      tccutil reset AppleEvents com.adobe.InDesign

   2. Run the following AppleScript:
      tell application id "com.adobe.InDesign"
do script "tell application \"Finder\" to display dialog \"Hello\""
end tell

   Expected:
   1. macOS asks to allow InDesign to control Finder
   2. After confirming, Finder shows an alert

   Actual:
   AppleScript error: Not authorized to send Apple events to Finder. (-1743)

   Background info:
   InDesign versions before 16.3 worked fine. I’ve been using do script to communicate with my app without issues. When running the script the first time macOS will ask the user to allow InDesign to control my app. After confirming or dismissing this dialog a new entry in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Automation will show up for Adobe InDesign 2021.app

   If the Automation entry is checked communication is authorised and the script works fine. If the user did not allow control, the entry is unchecked and can be enabled at any moment by the user in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Automation.

   Since InDesign 16.3 the macOS permission dialog doesn’t show up anymore. The user is not asked to give permissions and the entry will never show up in Automation. This results in all scripts failing due to no authorisation to communicate with external apps.

   If the user had previously allowed control (e.g. using InDesign 16.2), the Automation permission is persistent and works for 16.3 as well. But if it’s a first-time user, or if the Automation permission is reset, InDesign 16.3 will never trigger the dialog anymore.

   To reset macOS Apple Event permissions run the following command in Terminal:
   tccutil reset AppleEvents com.adobe.InDesign

   Solution:
   Looks like adding NSAppleEventsUsageDescription to the InDesign Info.plist solves the issue. Once this key is added the macOS permission dialog will show up correctly again.
   I’ve successfully confirmed this by adding this key to the plist:
   plutil -insert NSAppleEventsUsageDescription -string "This script needs to control other applications to run." /Applications/Adobe\ InDesign\ 2021.app/Info.plist

   And resigning the .app using a custom signing certificate (changing the Info.plist will break the original signing).

   According to https://indiestack.com/2018/08/apple-events-usage-description/ this key is required when linking against the macOS 10.14 SDK. Perhaps that’s what has changed in 16.3?

   If you need any further information to reproduce this issue, or information about the solution please let me know.

4. Bug when creating a form check box

   Creating a check box anchored in a text frame systematically ends with a crash in ID v16.2.1.

7. Where to find InDesign document links API reference?

   Where do I find the API reference for document links? (As show in the Links tab.) I've found scripting guides and various bits of documentation, but I can't find a complete object model reference.

   Newcomer to InDesign scripting. All I need is to dump the full path of every linked image to a text file. I've found a script online which does this, but it only outputs each link's 'name'. A fuller version of the same script dumps out the size and file type as well.

   I'd like to modify this script to dump out 'path', but 'path' doesn't seem to be the property name, and I can't figure out where to find the list of property names. Am I missing something? Does this documentation exist?

8. User Interaction Level resets during Data Merge

   Using at the top of the InDesign tell block:
   set user interaction level of script preferences to never interact

   The way I understand user interaction levels, when set to 'never interact', it should suppress all dialog boxes from popping up.

   When AppleScript performs 'merge records', and the merged record contains missing fonts, ONLY SOMETIMES a missing fonts dialog box pops up and breaks the script. One can close this dialog, run the script again, and the dialog doesn't appear. This unpredictability is why I'm logging it as a bug.

   Looking at the JavaScript DOM, the userInteractionLevel is a setting at the Application level, not the document.
   app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.NEVER_INTERACT;
