  1. Split column doesn't work correctly.

Urgent: ID 2020 splitting multiple columns doesn't work!
    I attach screenshot showing:
    - paragraph style split column
    - screenshot with style applied in ID 2019 14.3
    - screenshot with the same style and same text in ID 2020

  2. InDesign 2019/2020, PDF export deletes components of some composite CJK glyphs when they overlap

Install the test font in the attached zip and open the the InDesign document. Exporting to PDF clears out the top part. This did not happen in 2018.

I initially reported this to Josh Hadley on 23 Jan 2020, who wrote up an internal report and came back to me, saying the InDesign team could reproduce and suggested working around the issue by decomposing everything or diverting the export through PostScript/Distiller. A very large client told us that this is not an option for them and would like a direct fix.

  3. Use Auto-Sizing and Text Wrap Frame on causes application crash

Environment: InDesign 2020 (15.0.2 Japanese version) + macOS (confirmed with 10.15.3 and 10.14.6)

    • create and connect two text frames

    • set Auto-Sizing "Height and Width" on Text Frame Options

    • Insert text into two frames full

    • overlay graphic frames with Text Wrap settings ON

    • move the graphic frame appropriately (drawing is not normal at this point)

    • close documents with Command + W

During this operation, you will usually be asked to confirm the save, but suddenly InDesign will end and the application will crash.
Also, if you try while overwriting with Command + S without Command + W, you may not be…

    Hi
Based on internal investigation and customer comments, we have concluded that the issue got fixed in InDesign 15.0.2 and that issue happens with InDesign 15.0.1 version only.

Please start a new thread in case you see the issue happen with InDesign 15.0.2

    Thanks

  4. Right to Left direction select opposite direction

When we want to select a character or word by using cursor key in Arabic text, it select the opposite direction, i.e. Ctrl + Left arrow key, Shift + Left arrow key, Ctrl + Shift + Left arrow key, or Ctrl + Shift + Left arrow key, will select a character or word on the right of cursor, even if already set to "Visual" in preference for cursor movement.

  5. FIle extension should NOT be highlighted in the Save window.

FIle extension should NOT be highlighted in the Save window.

This didn't use to happen, but all the adobe apps has started doing this from 2 or 3 updates ago.

PLEASE REVERT. There's no good reason for the file extension to be highlighted.

  6. Font name incorrect when a character style is applied

If you make a character style that applies "Bold" (or some other font style) and then apply it to text, the font name changes incorrectly in the Font field of the Properties panel or Control panel.

For example, if the character style applies "Bold" and you apply it to text set to Minion Pro, then the font name changes to "Minion Pro Bold" and the style also changes to Bold.

This is incorrect. In older version of InDesign it worked correctly: The font name should stay "Minion Pro" and the style should change to "Bold"

  7. Vertical Text Alignment not working correctly in InDesign 2020

I recently upgraded to InDesign CC 2020 and find all the text in circles not aligned vertically center. Document was last opened in CC 2019 and these were fine. I haven’t modified these since. Rectangles are fine. See attached example - clearly not right and inconsistently so. I have tried every setting and I can’t get them to line up. Thanks!

Fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign 2020 – that is, InDesign 15.0.1

In the Creative Cloud Desktop application, click on the Updates section on the left. You should be able to see the Update available for InDesign. Please update your InDesign application to this version to try out the fix.

If you have created documents from ID15.0 where you see this issue, please do a Force Recomposition of the Text Frames (Cmd-Opt-/ on Mac, Ctrl-Alt-/ on Win) to make it work correctly.

Let us know in the comments section if you face any problem with the updation process.

  9. Placed PNG in InDesign, than export as PNG ... unfortunately the placed PNG displays as grey box.

Placed PNG in InDesign, than exported as PNG ... unfortunately the placed PNG displays as grey box. I tested the same file and exported it as a PDF and as a JPG the placed PNG is visible. Hardware and software is up-to-date.

  10. publish online

I have used Publish Online many times in the past. I am trying to locate an older document that I published two years ago. When I click on the previous link, I receive a 404 message.

So, I attempted to publish it again directly from InDesign, but the function sent an error unable to complete message.

So, I tried to access the publish dashboard, and then I receive a "You Do Not have access to Publish Online service."

  11. CC2020: Alternate text for hyperlinks

In CC2020 a new function for writing alternate text for links was introduced.
Using this function and generating a PDF Leeds to wrong PDF notation. The alt text in PDF is presented by alt text, which is forbidden in the PDF world, where alt text only should be used for non text elements, e.g. pictures. By presenting only the alt text the accessibility is lost – this is against the goal to hav a better output!
A correct output would lead to a content entry.

Note: Alt text for links is under discussion, as such alt text is not present…

  12. Links export to PDF creates "Null Alt Text" attribute in tagged PDF

When an ID 15 file with hyperlinks is exported to Tagged PDF, unless you assign alternative text to the Links in ID, the Link tags will have a "null text" attribute which prevents the content of the Link tag from being read by a screen reader. This is a problem for several reasons. Not everyone chooses to add alternative text to hyperlinks. It's a UA, but not a WCAG 2 requirement. An automated accessibility checker like Acrobat's or even PAC is not going to flag this. Most people do not do a "Jaws check" of the PDF they are remediating…

  13. Defining a stroke beginning with a gap does not work

If you define a stroke you can set the length of the first stroke to zero. But as you can see in the screenshot there is still some stroke visible.

Best solution: Make a "zero stroke" possible, a stroke which starts with a gap.

Second best solution: Change the minimum in the "length"-field to something > 0.

  14. unwanted space at line beginning (Thai language)

when paragraph contain Latin text or number or space at end of the line, many times when shrinking or expanding text frame, indesign cut the line and put space at beginning of the next line where those Latin text or number goes.

  15. Adobe InDesign (Build 15.0.3) - Italian UI Translation issue

    Good morning,

I have found a (severe) translation bug in the InDesign 15.0.3 Italian User Interface,

In the dialog "Text Frame Column Rule Options", in Italian UI "Opzioni regola colonna frame di testo", of "Object Styles" the English term "Rule/Rules" has been erroneously translated as "Regola/Regole" instead of "Filetto/Filetti".

Thank you for amending it in a future CU, as it is really misleading.

  16. Share for Review (15.1, ie. June 2020) color shift due to corrupt blend mode overlays

I feel like we've seen these kinds of issues before. But I noticed in the new "Share for Review" (InDesign 15.1) colors in a test document are shifting. A quick comparison shows that blend modes aren't been exported properly when sending a document up for "Share for Review."

In the screen shot, you can see what I mean: Top is the Review version as viewed in browser, bottom is the correct version as seen in InDesign. Some of the modes seem ok (Multiply, Normal opacity adjustments). But most blending modes aren’t rendering correctly (Hard and Soft Light look identical; Difference…

  17. Updated my Indesign to 15.0.3, now constant FREEZING, SLOW, NOT RESPONDING

after updating to 15.0.3, I have had CONSTANT issues with Indesign. (and Adobe Acrobat Pro) . Receive a CONSTANT not responding message. Extremely frustrated. Cannot get my work finished. Things are taking more than double the time they should. Something as simple as turning a page can take a entire minute or two. Wish I never updated.

  18. Incorrect re-linking of image files with rotation metadata

This bug occurs in all versions of InDesign.

InDesign reflects the EXIF orientation in the transform panel when an image file is placed. However, under the following conditions, the result of relinking will be incorrect.

    • The image file is rotated 90 degrees with EXIF orientation.

    • In the transform panel, the vertical and horizontal percentage values are different.

Image files taken with an iPhone often retain the EXIF orientation rotation. If such a file is placed in indd by the client and the vertical and horizontal percentage values are different, there will be a problem that will cause drastic changes in…

    Hi all,

We tried various scenarios with the attached file and got the following results:

    1. Placed the ‘EXIF-Orientation-6.jpg’ file shared in the thread.
-Rotation angle of the content was shown as -90°

    2. Edited the .jpg file in Photoshop to just change the color and Updated the link in InDesign.
-Rotation angle of the content was changed to 0°

    3. Then placed this edited file again, as a new link, in InDesign.
-Rotation angle was shown as 0°

Are you also seeing the same results?

    -InDesign Team

  19. Spellcheck

Spellcheck in InDesign 2020 build 15.0.2 doesn't work. It acts like it is working, but it never finds any misspellings. I noticed it yesterday when I sent an article to the proof reader and it came back with errors InDesign should have detected. I purposely put in misspellings, but InDesign found no spelling mistakes.

  20. Endnote references are not importing when placing word documents

I am placing a word 365 document into InDesign 2020 with endnotes ticked to be included and the endnote references are not importing. In the past the endnote references will display in-text and a full endnote reference list will display on the last page in one text box. I have tried using 2018/2019 with the same result. This appears to be a new bug. I have attached screenshots of the Word document with endnotes displayed and the InDesign document after placing the same word document which shows the endnotes have not been imported. Also an anchored text box is also…
