  1. Artefact issues with Accessible PDFs.

Elements on the master page are not tagged as artifacts, according to PAC 3.
Not even with a corresponding style that has this property.
    PAC 3: https://www.access-for-all.ch/en/pdf-accessibility-checker.html

This behavior also applies to these elements on a normal page:
    - Table borders
    - Paragraph border
    - Column rules
    ...

This is a big problem because these elements have to be defined manually as artifacts. This can quickly be hundreds of elements.

  2. Make Crop Marks always outside the Bleed

People who don't understand bleed (and they are out there) leave the Marks Offset setting on default, which causes problems when they send their files out for printing.

There is absolutely no situation or circumstance in which it is a good idea to have the Crop Marks inside the Bleed. Not one. Not Ever.

So why do we have to adjust the Marks Offset when we change the Bleed ? Why is it not even offered as an option in the Preferences to set this automatically ?

It's not just when exporting a PDF, but also when Printing, from InDesign,…

  3. Tags not Exporting Correctly and other Accessibility Issues

The latest versions of InDesign often does not export tags to PDF correctly. Other accessibility issues also tend to occur from time to time, but the most common is tagged artifacts lose their tags when exported to PDF. I backsave to InDesign 2019 and re export. All is consistently correct from that version. Would love for Adobe to look into this issue and correct. Our sight-impaired populations require software that makes accessibility easier with each upgrade, not harder. (Reinventing the process every few upgrades doesn't help either.) Thanks!

  4. PDF comment two-way sync

Let InDesign sync the status of comments (resloved/unresolved/...) back to the PDF.

OR let InDesign export PDF's with unresolved comments.

  5. InDesign CC 2019 - font error issues with PDFs

When latest InDesign CC 2019 creates a PDF using certain fonts, an error message appears when opening PDF in Acrobat Pro DC: "Cannot extract the embedded font 'JLUSWO+fontname'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."

Never had this issue with previous InDesign versions. The same PDF opens, views and prints perfectly in Preview. Creating PDFs by other applications with the same font are fine.

    HELP!

We have released InDesign CC2019.0.2 with lot of stability fixes. If you are not on 14.0.2.324 then I would recommend you to upgrade to latest version as it is more robust.

If you still face this issue even after updating, please send the following information to santalwa@adobe.com :
    • Error snapshot or video recording of the issue?
    • Is(Are) the issue related to a specific document(s)/asset(s)? If Yes, Can you please provide the document(s)/asset(s)? Please package the entire document(To package the document, Go to File → Package)
    • Does Trashing preference and cache, please create a backup of Preference and cache before trashing them, help to resolve the issue?

  6. alt text

    Also category: Accessibility

I'm having a problem with the PDF tags when applying alt text to a group of items- a feature introduced in the most recent version of Indesign. Even though our articles panel shows separate articles, ALL of the content that comes AFTER a group tagged with alt text will have their exported tags all appear nested within that group as well, ignoring the structure set up in the Article panel. For example:

    Article 1

     Group with alt tag

          item in group

          Item in group

     more content

    Article 2

     Article 2 content

Will in the exported PDF appear…

  7. PDFs Export to Google Drive as 0 Bytes, for Anyone on MacOS Ventura

Sometime in approximately late January 2023, my workgroup began having difficulty exporting PDFs from InDesign to our Google Drive. The PDF files appear on the Drive but as 0 bytes and can't be opened/viewed from the Chrome side of the Drive. We have isolated the problem as specific to anyone who is on MacOS Ventura. We believe the problem stems from a late January/early February upgrade to either the Google Drive, InDesign or Ventura (or perhaps a perfect storm combo of all three). We have 8 InDesign users in our workgroup and only the three who upgraded to Ventura are…

  8. Acrobat freezes/crashes when exporting as PDF from InDesign

When we export PDFs with "View PDF after Exporting" checked, Acrobat sometimes freezes up and we need to force-quit it. InDesign also freezes. During the crashing process, the PDF is created normally. Our workaround is to uncheck that box, but that's not ideal because we've always had it on for 10+ years and are used to automatically reviewing the PDFs before sending them to clients, etc. We are saving to a NAS Drobo using AFP. Can this be fixed?

  10. indesign export to pdf unusable for Thai

Basically all the diacritics are messed up, regardless of font used. The PDF looks fine but the text if copied from the PdF is garbled.
This is in 16.2.1 (2021). It was working in 2019.

  11. Endnotes are tagged incorrectly when exporting to Accessible PDF from InDesign 2021

In InDesign 2021, endnotes are not nested inside of a <Note> tag like they should be. Now only the Endnote number is in a <Note> tag and everything else is in a <P> tag. Normal behavior is to put each Endnote in its entirety within a <Note> tag. In addition, for several versions Endnotes and Footnotes are in a <Note> tag but then there's a <P> tag within the <Note> tag. The <P> tag is unnecessary and causes an error when trying to validate Accessible PDF. Please remove the <P> tag within <Note> tags when exporting to tagged PDF.

  12. Placed PDFs that contain hyperlinks when exported to PDF, links are removed

    InDesign 15.1.1
    macOS Majave
    Acrobat Version (Architecture: x86_64
    Build: 20.9.20067.384717
    AGM: 4.30.101
    CoolType: 5.14.5
    JP2K: 1.2.2.46033)
    ========= END SYSTEM INFO ========

Step 1: Open Indesign and place the "Placed PDF.pdf" file on a page
Step 2: Export the PDF using Adobe PDF Presets (High Quality) select Hyperlinks checkbox on export and save
Step 3: Open exported PDF and put mouse over hyperlink that was present in document from Step 1.

Expected Result: would expect the hyperlink to remain clickable when exported from originating PDF

Actual Result: hyperlink was removed on export and is no longer clickable :( See attached document…

  13. Renaming hyperlinks shared destinations: broken links in exported PDF

    Hello,

I encounter a serious issue with InDesign 2020 (15.0.3) when renaming hyperlinks shared destinations (linking pages in the same document):

Those links seem still working in InDesign when clicking a page icon in the Hyperlinks panel (it leads to the proper destination page)
They don't work anymore after the PDF export in Acrobat (the links are clickable but they lead nowhere)
I had to re-create all the shared destination links in the document, which is a huge waste of time at least and makes the feature very unreliable.

I made 2 tests files, here's the Dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lugt070lkyzvnwr/AABIqY90wl4A0ujhD66K6nFaa?dl=0

    Test…

  14. Exporting a PDF from Indesign is creating Form Xobject containers for everything.

This is happening to me now and is messing everything up for 508 accessibility remediation. Copied this from another user. "The latest version of InDesign exports PDF's in which most all the tagged content is in an Xobject container, making accessibility remediation MUCH MORE DIFFICULT. This is a huge step backwards. Attached are two examples, from the same client, annual reports- last year's was fine, this year's has all the xobject issues. Please advise, help, fix, something!!!"

  15. InDesign 2020 not tagging lists properly on export to Interactive PDF

If a paragraph style is used to define a tag for export to PDF, all numbered and bulleted lists used with that style inherit the same tag, rather than the list tag <L>, <LI>, etc.

Resolved For User  ·  amaarora responded

    Hi,
Please use a separate style for the bullets with tag set to [Automatic]
You are experiencing the issue due to an accessibility related bug fix done in v15.0

    See https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/fixed-issues.html
Issue fixed: List should not export as List Tag if another tag is assigned

Please let us know in comments section if it is otherwise.

    Thanks

  16. CC2020 Unreliable PDF export

The content of some pages disappears when exporting in pdf.
In the attached screenshot: on the left the indesign file and on the right the exported file. We can see that the double page should not be white.

  17. Export Interative PDF - Create Tagged PDF checkbox Bug

All my paragraph styles are set to corresponding tags (eg., H1, H2, etc.) for export options. When I export to tagged pdf, the tag names generated in PDF were paragraph style names not "Export Tagging" names.

Please look it into this and do the needful.

  18. InDesign produces 'failed to open the pdf file' error when importing pdf with dotted lines

Using InDesign v13.1 on a MacBook Air (12 inch, 2017) running iOS 10.13, importing a .pdf generated using attached MS Powerpoint file LA02examplerunFigure.pptx resulted in 'failed to open the pdf file' error if the lines added to the graphic are dotted lines as shown (see attachment). Changing these lines to solid lines before exporting to .pdf solved this (see 'LA02examplerunFigure(noDotted).pptx). Upon experimentation, addition of any dotted line to the graphic in Powerpoint results in this error when the file is exported to a .pdf and imported to InDesign.

  19. Table cells tagged as form fields do not get tagged when using the Articles panel in an accessible PDF file.

If you convert a table cell to a graphic cell and then make it an interactive form field, if you use the Articles panel to control the order, the form fields do not get tagged.

    1.) Create a table
2.) Select a cell and choose Table > Convert to Graphic Cell
3.) Open the articles panel and drag the frame containing the table to the Articles panel to create a new article.
4.) Enable "Use for Reading order in tagged PDF" from the Articles panel menu.
5.) Export to interactive PDF with tags enabled.

Result: If you open the PDF…

  20. last letter in text frame disappears from PDF Hebrew

We're having issues with the last letter or the punctuation at the end of a sentence disappearing when the file is exported as a PDF. Primarily happens with right-to-left language, we're using Hebrew.
