InDesign performance issue: Text disappears while editing
When editing a text box, the text disappears.
I have to switch the display mode (Overview > Normal or Normal > Overview) to make the text appear again.
This bug occurs frequently (10~20 times a day) but I did not identify what is the trigger.
Build 188.8.131.52 x64
Windows 10 x64
Thank you for reporting the issue. Our investigation revealed that the problem manifests in multiple use cases.
We have fixed the issue in some of the use cases and are currently working on the remaining ones.
Please update your InDesign to the latest version, id 14.0.3 to try out the fix.
We shall update here once we have addressed all the remaining use case
We appreciate your cooperation.
I, too, am having this issue on an M1 MacBook. Used multiple fonts. I have to Undo the typing or move the text box to make the text visible. Tried to upload a video, but I guess it is too large.
Further testing seems to be that it happens when I re-activate the text box to do further edits.
Same problem here on Mac Mini M1, all latest software. Every text disappears after my first edit / input. Unable to get things done.
Upgraded to the new iMac and this is happening to me too. SO infuriating!! It's taking me double the time to create a brochure layout! I tried downgrading to the previous Indesign (16.3.1) but still having the same issue. Please help.
Since upgrading to an M1 Mac mini, I've been experiencing this issue constantly. Like others, I zoom in and out to see the text again, but it might only last a few seconds before it disappears again.
same issue here.
M1, latest indesign.
text keeps on disappearing while editing it.
really su*** and that bug is a pain to work with.
Only solution I found out is to quickly zoom in and out again (alt + / alt -)
Adobe, you better fix that!

I used the overprint preview feature to text change and that works no glitch

I'm using a new MacBook Air with latest InDesign update and having the same problem. I accidentally discovered a "fix" -- make text changes in Overprint Preview mode (View drop-down menu). So far, that is working for me.

I just realized Abhionav's response was from A YEAR AGO...what the heck happened to Adobe? This only started recently for me (M1 Mac Mini, Mac OS 11.4). I loaded Quark Xpress to get my work done. Works fine.
Partial fix: press Page Up and Page Down to make the text re-appear.
Remember when InDesign was the solution to Quark's horrible customer service?

Disappearing text makes ID unusable. Is Quark still around?

I'm on an M1 MacBook Pro with the latest everything and this problem is making my work flow to a crawl. Every time I make ANY CHANGE in a text box (including typing anything, cutting and pasting, etc.) all the text disappears and i have to adjust the View to make it reappear. I am on deadline. HELP.

This is happening to me too! I start typing in a text box and the text keeps disappearing, reappearing, disappearing, etc. If I zoom in or out it shows up again, but it's literally every few seconds when editing a text box.
macOS Big Sur Version 11.4
MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
Memory 8 GB
Adobe InDesign 16.3.2
Same issue here, InDesign 2021 (16.3.2), Macbook Pro 13 M1 2020.
Annoying, all day the same thing, have to press W every time to switch between previews so the text could be visible again.

This is a huge annoyance. Please fix! I am on the newest M1 MacBook Pro as well. I didn't have this issue with the Airbook..

Also having this issue on the latest update (which I thought would be patched!) M1 MacBook Pro
Still doing it. seems creative suite is getting less reliable each year. Did Microsoft take over the developing lol?

Just to understand this better, I am using :
>>> InDesign CS6, version 8.0 ---because I do NOT want to pay the much MUCH higher cost for an ongoing subscription, as I use ID only intermittently these days, although I am highly experienced/professional-level user.
It is my understanding that if I upgrade, I will no longer be able to use this CS6 inDesign without upgrading to the predatory-priced subscription. I have one (small) client for whom I need indesign, but I ALSO need continued access to my older personal files.
Am I correct or mistaken?
I am using an iMac, Mac OS High Sierra, 10.13.6
It happens to me too on the latest 2021 update (16.3.2) and the one before, running on the M1 Macbook Air. But not just 10-20 times a day, literally every textbox I click on to edit does this as fast as I edit the text. The text will show again if I randomly add a few more characters or resize the text box, it is very annoying.
Just got the latest iMac 24" and I too am having the same difficulty for the first time ever and it's slowing me down incredibly having to zoom in and out, or select ignore text wrap, or change from normal to preview mode.
Apparently this has been going on for years and for the money we spend, it's totally unacceptable!!!
