1. Error message "Save File Operation Failed" seen for PNG/JPEG export in Adobe InDesign 2024

   InDesign 2024 (v19.0)

   In v18.5 any design can be Exported as a JPEG or PNG.

   When I Export a design to JPEG or PNG in v19.0 then I get the "Save File Operation Failed" message and the program freezes - see attached screen shot

2. Color Swatch Menu Closes Upon Right-Click

   1. Adobe InDesign v19.0 When I click the color swatches panel menu dropdown, the menu drops down, and I am able to edit existing swatches and I am able to add new swatches. The problem occurs when I attempt to right-click on a color or if I press the hamburger button at the top right of the panel. When I try to do either of these, the entire menu closes.

3. Panel flyout menus do not open on external displays/expanded desktops — they open only on primary display

   I keep all of my tool palettes on a secondary monitor on Mac OS (now Sonoma) running the latest version of InDesign.

   None of the flyout menus will open when the tool palettes are on a secondary display. However, I find if I drag the tool palette over to my Primary display, the flyout menus work again (until I drag them back to the external display).

4. Adobe Caslon Pro: Glyph as bullet does not function

   InDesign version 18.2.1 (Windows 10 x64). I would like to use a glyph as a bullet (the opentype digit 3 of Adobe Caslon Pro - an acorn). In the paragraph style box for my "Bulleted list" style, I am trying to add the bullet. When I click "add" and then click "ok," a standard round black dot appears in my list of bullet characters to choose from. If I try to add my preferred glyph (or any of the other opentype glyphs from the font's set, for that matter), the program tells me: "The selected bullet already appears in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box with this font and style association. Specify a different font or style, or select a different bullet." I also cannot add the glyph as bullet manually in the lists window. In short, adding a glyph as bullet is not functioning. There has been extensive discussion of this issue on the Adobe Support Community. Many people have suggested numerous solutions, but none have worked. For steps attempted to resolve the issue, see: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/glyph-as-bullet-not-functioning-in-paragraph-styles/m-p/13723795#M523395. One user has pointed out the encoding of ornaments in the most recent version of the font as an issue. I hope that you will consider remedying this apparent bug. Thank you.

5. Opening documents as tabs cannot be deactivated

   Always open documents as tabs even if you have not selected this in the settings under User interface -> Open documents as tabs. I need different window sizes and find tabs impractical.

6. [ID-4245422]Underlines are drawn in the space left by "danraku jisage".

   When I use "danraku jisage " in the "mojigumi akiryou settei" , an underline is underlined in the empty space at the beginning of a line.
   Since there are no characters in the empty space, it is correct that underlines are not underlined in the same way as when indentation is used to lower the line.

   「文字組みアキ量設定」で「段落字下げ」を行ったとき、行頭の空いている部分にも下線が引かれてしまう。
   空いている部分には文字はないので、インデントで下げたときと同じように、下線は引かれないのが正しい。

7. When adding a list to a Right to Left Paragraph, tab leader disappers

   1. InDesign (Middle East) 18.1.0.51

   2. In a Right to Left Text Frame type a few words in a Right to Left Paragraph direction, following by tab with a period leader definition and then type a any any number so you will get dots between the last word and number (like in TOC). See in the attached image. Selceet one of the list options (numbering or bullets) to see the tab leader disaapers.

   3. Numbers or Bullets should be added at the begining without change the rest of the text.

   4. The Tab leader disappers (see attached image)

8. InDesign 2023 (18.0) Screen not refreshing

   Half the time or more, page down/up and zoom do not refresh the screen. Attempting to select something just draws the rectangle around nothing. Finally through a variety of erratic body movements, thrashing and random gestures, ID wakes up. This is a huge step backward from v17. Productivity severely hampered.

9. [ID-4236204]Using “Paragraph Borders and Shading” on frame grid, it is incorrect to base them on grid attributes possessed by the frame grid

   InDesign Version CC2018 or newer

   1. “Paragraph Borders and Shading” are usually generated based on the outline of the glyphs in the paragraph to which they are applied.
      This is true even if they are grid-aligned on a text frame (Figure 1-a, right).
      However, when the same settings are made on a frame grid, for some reason, they are generated based on the grid attributes of the frame grid, not the glyph outlines.
      This always occurs based on the grid attribute of the frame grid, regardless of whether the text in the frame grid is grid-aligned or not (Figure 1-a left).
      The “Paragraph Borders and Shading” setting in Figure 1-a is the same for both (Figure 1-b).
      In Japanese typesetting, such operation is rarely used.
      In particular, it is never done when paragraphs that are not grid-aligned are mixed within a frame grid.
      For this reason, “Paragraph Borders and Shading”cannot be used when using a frame grid.

   2. Then, it is not so if “Paragraph Borders and Shading” can be somehow operated as long as they are grid-aligned in the frame grid.
      In Figure 2-a, it can be seen that the "Paragraph Border" that occurs in the right and left paragraphs is different.
      Both the right and the left have the same settings (Figure 2-b).
      The only difference is whether it is at the top of the paragraph or in the middle.
      This phenomenon occurs when the “Gyodori”setting is used.

   From the above two points, I believe that the developer does not understand how the “Paragraph Borders and Shading” should occur on the frame grid at all.
   “Paragraph Borders and Shading” should occur on the frame grid, just as it does on a text frame, based on glyph outlines, and should not be affected by grid attributes.

   「段落の囲み罫と背景色」をフレームグリッド上で使用するとき、フレームグリッドの持つグリッド属性を基準にするのは間違っている

   1.　「段落の囲み罫と背景色」は、通常は適用した段落のグリフの外形を基準として発生する。
   これは、テキストフレームでグリッド揃えをしていても同様である（図1-a右）。
   しかし、フレームグリッド上で同じ設定をすると、なぜかグリフの外形ではなく、フレームグリッドの持つグリッド属性を基準として発生してしまう。
   これはフレームグリッド内のテキストが、グリッド揃えをしていてもしていなくても、必ずフレームグリッドのグリッド属性を基準に発生してしまう（図1-a左）。
   図1-aで設定している「段落の囲み罫と背景色」の設定はどちらも同じである（図1-b）。
   日本語の組版上、そのような運用をすることはまずない。
   特に、フレームグリッド内に、グリッド揃えをしない段落を混在させるときには、絶対にしない。
   このため、フレームグリッドを使用している時には、事実上「段落の囲み罫と背景色」は使用できない。

   2.　ではフレームグリッド内でグリッド揃えをしていれば、「段落の囲み罫と背景色」は何とか運用できるのかというと、そうではない。
   図2-aでは、右と左の段落で、発生している「段落の囲み罫」が異なることが見て取れるだろう。
   右も左も同じ設定である（図2-b）。
   違うのは、段落の最上部にあるか、半ばにあるかだけである。
   この現象は、「段落の行取り」設定をしているときに発生する。

   上記の2つの点から、開発者はフレームグリッド上で「段落の囲み罫と背景色」がどのように発生するべきかを全く理解していないと考えられる。
   「段落の囲み罫と背景色」は、フレームグリッド上であっても、テキストフレーム上と同じように、グリフ外形を基準として発生するべきで、グリッド属性に左右されてはいけない。

10. [ID-4252110]Place (cmd+D) can't see tagged folders on mac

    Place command (cmd+D) can't see the tagged folders, so i can't find my documents quickly as it should be...

    All other commands (export cmd+E for exemple) allow me to navigate from my tagged folders.

    Please add the same option to place command.

11. PDF/X-1a運用において、危険度が高い「画像の配置方法」を発見しましたので報告させていただきます。

    Indesign （15.1.3）（16.4）（17.3）などで以下の現象を確認できます。
    表を作成し、「セルをグラフィックセルに変換」という機能を使用せずに、空のままのセル内に画像を配置します。
    配置方法は、何も選択していない状態で「ファイル」、「配置」、画像を選択して「開く」、配置先のセルをクリックといったものです。
    この配置方法でドキュメントを作成し、「プリント」より出力して確認したところ何の問題もありません。
    印刷会社へ渡すためのPDF/X-1aを「書き出し」より出力します。
    期待する結果としては、「プリント」からの出力結果と同等のPDFが作成されることです。
    実結果は、Illustratorのドロップシャドウが黒ベタに、同ぼかし効果が無効に、Photoshopのレイヤマスクが黒ベタになったPDFが作成されてしまいます。
    以上です。

12. object style override plus-sign when multiple elements selected

    Object style made. Works fine.
    Multiple items on page need same style. When applied to ONE item, styles menu looks "normal." When applied to multiple items, with items selected, the styles menu shows plus-sign after style name.
    All of "clear overrides" options tried. Does not fix. Cannot verify that use of style is correct if styles panel gives false feedback.
    In the past, earlier versions, I don't remember ever seeing this apparent conflict.

13. Anchored text box in a table cell with text threads crashes when cutting

    As the title says. It sounds similar to past bugs.

    First, create a text box and add a table.
    Create a separate, new text box and add a single character in it.
    Anchor the text box to any cell in the table.
    Enable "Show Text Threads" from the View > Extras menu.
    Selecting and attempting to cut the table will lead to a long hang and crash.

    This is on the latest version of InDesign at the moment, 17.0. I am on Windows 10 20H2 19042.1288. I can verify this occurring on two separate systems.
    I've included a video walking through the steps to reproduce the crash.

    As the title says. It sounds similar to past bugs.

14. Shortcuts for view at 200% 400% & 50% not working correctly

    Windows 10 - Indesign CC 16.4 (only just updated today 8/10)

    Issues - shortcuts
    Ctrl+5 (view @ 50%)
    Ctrl+2 (view @200%)
    Ctrl+4 (view @400%) not working properly.

    Ctrl+5 is now view @ 33.33%
    Ctrl+4 is now view @ 266.67%
    Ctrl+2 is now view @ 133.33%

    The issue doesn't seem to be a thing for Mac, they work fine.

15. [ID-4236366]Scripts using BridgeTalk do not work on M1 Macs (regardless of CC version)

    ID version: InDesign CC 2021 (16.3.2)
    OS: macOS Big Sur 11.5.2
    Processor: Apple M1

    When I try to run a script that uses BridgeTalk and works with Photoshop, it does not work.
    Also, a simple script using BridgeTalk will not work as well.
    Those scripts do work in CC 2021 on Intel Mac and macOS Big Sur 11.5.2.

16. [ID-4250752][MAC]Page numbers cut-off in Page panel when viewing in Horizontal mode

    Currently on Mac OS Big Sur using inDesign 16.1

    When viewing the pages panel in horizontal view and the page count exceeds what the panel can hold the scroll bars appear but then the last row of pages seem to have their page numbers hidden behind the UI and are not visible no matter how much you move the scroll bars down.

    I have seen this behavior since inDesign 15 on Mac OS Catalina.

18. WorldReady settings go missing in [Basic Paragraph] style

    Adobe InDesign (ME) 2021, 2020, CC 2019, ..., CS6
    macOS and Windows

    InDesign's WorldReady settings (Paragraph Direction, Kashidas, etc.) are being stripped from a document's [No Paragraph Style] style when opened on a machine with a missing 3rd-party plug-in (like Em Software's InCatalog). This appears to happen with any 3rd-party plug-in that adds a text attribute with a prefix that's lower than the WorldReady plug-in's prefix. While the following steps use the Middle Eastern app (English Arabic), where there's a UI to see the style's empty/blank WorldReady entries, we've confirmed that this problem affects all app variants (including English (Roman)).

    To reproduce:
    1. Install ME version of InDesign 2021 (English Arabic).
    2. Install Em Software's InCatalog plug-in (http://emsoftware.com/products/emcatalog/ ) or any plug-in that adds a text attribute with a prefix ID below that of WorldReady's 0x50f00. (The SDK's BasicTextAdornment sample will work if its kBscTAPrefixNumber is changed to something like 0x43a00.)
    3. Restart InDesign while holding down Shift-Control-Option/Alt (to ensure the session workspace's [Basic Paragraph] style is rebuilt to include the new plug-in's text attribute).
    4. Create a new document and add a text frame containing a few paragraphs using the [Basic Paragraph] style. This text should compose as right-to-left (the ME version's default direction, as specified by WorldReady's kParagraphDirAttrBoss). Create a numbered list, since that's a great way to see the problem.
    5. Save the document.
    6. Quit InDesign.
    7. Remove InCatalog (or whatever plug-in was installed in step 2).
    8. Restart InDesign.
    9. Open the document that was saved in step 5.

    Alternatively:
    1. Install ME version of InDesign 2021 (English Arabic).
    2. Restart InDesign while holding down Shift-Control-Option/Alt (to ensure a clean session workspace)
    3. Open the attached SavedWithInCat(2021ME).indd file. (Well, UserVoice won't let me upload it. Ask & I can send directly.)

    Notice that the text frame in the opened document incorrectly flows left-to-right and the numbered list's numbers wrongly show on the left rather than the right. Edit the [Basic Paragraph] style and note that the WorldReady settings in the Middle East Character Formats and Indents and Spacing panels are blank/empty. (See attached before-after screenshots.) One would expect a style to survive intact even when opened on a machine with a missing 3rd-party plug-in, but instead some of its settings may be at risk of being lost.

    We've used WorldReady as the victim here, but this problem affects any plug-in, Adobe or 3rd party, that adds a text attribute with a prefix that's higher than the missing plug-in's prefix (such as Em Software's InData).

    Details: We've isolated what looks like a long-standing problem (bug?) with the SDK's AttributeBossList::CopyInto(), where it stops the copy when it encounters an attribute whose plug-in is missing. Instead, the copy should continue after the missing plug-in's entry order to produce a complete list of non-missing attributes. Copies produced by AttributeBossList's Duplicate(), ApplyAttributes(), and its copy-constructor are all affected.

    InDesign's WorldReady settings (Paragraph Direction, Kashidas, etc.) are being stripped from a document's [No Paragraph Style] style when opened on a machine with a missing 3rd-party plug-in (like Em Software's InCatalog). 19. Serious GREP style bug: ampersands

    Hi, InDesign team.

    I've run into a serious bug with GREP styles. Any GREP expression containing an ampersand character that is entered as a GREP style in a paragraph style will suddenly acquire additional ampersands whenever I scroll through the list of GREP styles.

    STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

    Create a simple GREP style as part of a paragraph style.
    The entire GREP expression should consist of the single character &. (Though this also happens when the & is part of longer expressions.)
    Make enough other GREP styles that you need to scroll in the window to see them all.
    Close the paragraph style window and reopen it.
    Scroll through the list of GREP styles.
    When you scroll, you will see that "&" has become "&&."

    I believe I have gotten around the bug by using the Unicode value for an ampersand, but this is not ideal. I need to be able to trust that the GREP style implementation is solid.

20. [ID-4224415]Accessibility Tags order to match in InDesign and PDF

    Accessibility tag tree is not matching as per InDesign XML tag structure. We are doing more manual work to re-arrange the tag tree as per PDF view in Acrobat. We need to fix this bug in InDesign and match the tag tree as per InDesign tag structure for the accessibility PDF.
