  1. Unable to delete PDF comments

In Indesign 17.0.1, I have a few book files in which once I import PDF comments and apply them, I cannot delete them. Also if I choose to filter the comments by "unresolved" once I resolve or apply a comment, it does not disappear as it should. File now has multiple rounds of comments that need to be deleted to make way future rounds of revision. Also finding that applying the comments is VERY slow and buggy (this book is ~300 pages).

  2. Mapping errors of PDF comments for deletion when applied to list items (CC 2020)

PDF comments for deletion of list items get wrongly mapped to InDesign when importing to CC 2020; e.g. include the last character from previous list item if bullet point / numbering was included in selection to be deleted, or may be mapped to a completely wrong part of another list in the document (Although this is likely due to confusion by text duplication, it shouldn't happen nevertheless).

Haven't tested with older versions of ID.

  3. Import PDF Comments - New Bugs identified - Part 4

We're also facing below issues in the new feature, called 'Import PDF Comments':

    (1) Corrections importing in wrong place
    (2) Corrections missing in InDesign
    (3) No correction marked in PDF, but still correction found in InDesign

Please let me know for any clarifications on the above given feedback.

  4. Can't accept "highlighted" text (with replacement text) using Import PDF Comments

For years I have taught my clients to not use insert or strike through, simply because they are hard to see and click on, especially on a laptop. I much prefer the old school way, highlighted text, with an attached replacement text. Now with Import PDF comments, I see them but can't accept them. Can you make that work?

  5. Restrict printing of PDF until all mandatory fields are filled in.

I have designed a CC authorization form that all fields are set to mandatory and with a PRINT button at the bottom. However I want to restrict printing until all fields are filled out. What's the sense of making fields mandatory if, basically, they aren't?

  6. Copy in Indesign layout is menu clicked "All Caps". PDF comments does not work. Only when copy is set to normal

When my copy in Indesign layout is menu clicked "All Caps" from tool bar or Character menu. I make a change request in the PDF. Like "remove" a word. Then Import the PDF comments. Accept does not work. The only time it works is if the copy is set to regular copy or if you type the copy in "All Caps". No menu changes.

  7. comments

There is an extreme lag when using the Import PDF Comments feature. Sometimes I have to select "Accept" multiple times to activate the comment. And the file is very slow, it can take 20 or 30 seconds for the comment to be applied which is unbearable when working on a large 300+ page book with hundreds of comments. This used to work seamlessly but with the 2024 upgrade it is a total nightmare. I searched the forums and it seems like this has been a problem for some time and has not been fixed—this should be resolved considering this is…

  8. Imported PDF comments listed in the wrong order

    1. InDesign 19.0
    2. Mark up an InDesign-exported PDF using Acrobat. The page should be text-heavy and have multiple, tedious changes indicated. Import the marked-up PDF into the source InDesign document's layout. Display the PDF and InDesign layout side-by-side on your screen.
    3. The comments should be listed in the same order in Acrobat and InDesign.
    4. The comments are listed in the correct order in Acrobat, but are in a completely random order in InDesign.
    5. See attached screen shot.

PDF comments invariably appear in the wrong order in the list compared to their counterparts in Acrobat. The Acrobat list makes sense as comments…

  9. Import PDF Comments not supported

We are using InDesign CC 2022 version in production and try to import the comments from the PDF which created using the same Indesign file. But we encountered the alert as "PDF is not created from InDesign. Select another PDF to continue". Please check and suggest. Sample files are attached for reference.

  11. Printing error with Acrobat

I get the following error message when I try to print InDesign documents to Acrobat.
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: ioerror; OffendingCommand: readstring ]%%

    Stack:

    (› PoÈsKÖnµÐY5Âê2¢ ÷Fmø-êíöYJ
øR½=Ö¤%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

Getting frustrating. Any ideas on how to repair it?

  12. Solved PDF comments become unmapped

Some solved PDF comments shows up as unmapped and unresolved.
I often end up with a long list of unmapped comments after I am done solving the list of comments.

  13. Imported drawn PDF comments don't adjust in ID layout

    1. ID 14
    2. Import a batch of PDF comments into layout, including edits made using the Oval and Arrow tools to show placement. Then proceed to apply edits, thereby adjusting the location of the text on the page.
    3. I would expect the drawn edits to be tagged to a location in the text, and to track with the copy as it reflows. If this feature is going to be available, that is.
    4. Actual result: the markup remains on the page at the coordinates at which it was imported. By the time to you get to that location, if you've been making…

  14. "PDF not Created in InDesign"

A PDF was exported from Adobe InDesign, opened in Abobe Acrobat, annotation tools were used, and the PDF was saved under a new file name. Attempting to open the comments in InDesign with the "Import PDF Comments" tool returns an error stating the PDF was not created in InDesign.... but it was, and only Adobe tools have been used.

  15. PDF comments imported incorrectly

    1. Both ID 2024 and 2023 (19.0.1 and 18.5.1)
    2. A PDF file created with ID 19, and was commented by the client. When I import PDF comments it sometimes crashes, and afterwords ID does import the comments, but most of them are "broken" and appear as "unmapped comments".
    3. Attached are screenshots from both versions after importing comments from same file. Dark screenshot is from version 19.

  16. Imported PDF comments on graphics transferred to text on page

    1. InDesign 19.0
    2. Add Acrobat comments to placed Illustrator graphics in an exported PDF, then import the PDF to PDF Comments in the source InDesign document.
    3. One would expect a warning dialog or just unmapped comments in InDesign.
    4. Instead, InDesign tries to map the comments elsewhere on the page.
    5. Screenshot shows the example I encountered with strikethrough markup. Instead of the % signs in the graphic, InDesign wants me to delete random letters and spaces in the text.

In the previous version I was able to work very smoothly with the comments I imported, but in this version the computer crashes. It freezes during processing.

  18. When a comment is made in a PDF using the Insert Text tool, that comment doesn't map to ID 18.5 and previous versions.

For the past month or so the insert text comments made in a PDF do not map to the InDesign doc. I'm getting comments from multiple users. All other mark-up is mapping as expected except insert text. I update ID every time a new version is released but this bug seems to be persistent.

  19. Importing PDF Comments: inclusion of Sticky Notes slows InDesign down to a crawl.

When importing PDF Comments, it is mostly a breeze until the editor/author applies a 'Sticky Note'.

Moving through a document where 'Sticky Notes' have been added, the page, and surrounding pages, slows InDesign to a crawl and can take a few minutes to apply one change.

While my workaround is to run through all the 'Sticky Notes' in the PDF file first and apply those changes independently before deleting them, I can then import the PDF Comments in the usual way to speed up the remaining part of the process without being hindered.

  20. Import PDF comments not appear as per PDF marking

In PDF it showing the comments correctly but after importing in InDesign it strike through the extra character.

InDesign version 2021 (16.4). We used the same InDesign file and PDF was created from that file.

Please refer the attached screen shot. After giving accept in InDesign character "f" and space also removed.

    I attached screenshot for reference
