2. InDesign 15.0 Smart Guides problem on converted files

   After the 15.0 update InDesign does not show Smart Guides on files that are saved with the older version of InDesign. New blank documents show Smart Guides as they should but if I open (convert) old file to 15.0 Smart Guides stop working. So when I drag elements they don't snap to each other or center to the page for example.

   I'm working on Windows 10.

3. Reveal in Finder on NAS Server not working

   When using InDesign 14.0.3, on mac OS X Catalina (10.15.1), ctrl clicking the .indd file's title bar to reveal in finder doesn't work (switches to finder but doesn't reveal) if the .indd file is stored on NAS RAID server. Server connection is afp://
   Revel in Finder command works fine if the .indd file is stored locally.

4. Live-Linking Word Document

   Since updating to 14.0.3 the live linking function for text documents no longer works.

   Since updating to 14.0.3 if I place a word document into my Indesign Document and ensure that the link text setting is turned on in file handline it places the word document but is unable to update the file when changes are made in word. It won't even allow for manual updating and you have to re-place the document every time you make an update. This means our project is going to take a lot longer to finish as we have to re-map our paragraph styles every time we import just from changing a single space or paragraph in a 50 page report.

7. Only loading icon

   Today (10.10.2019) I tried continuing my work in Adobe InDesign (newest CC version), and it refuses to work at all. Upon opening application there is only loading icon. Restarting system, and reinstalling application wouldnt work

8. No Gpu performance

   Version of Adobe InDesign : 14.0.3
   Version of MacOS : Catalina (10.15)

   Steps to reproduce the issues :
   Go to : preferences , GPU performances

   Expected result :
   Enable Gpu performances

   Actual result :
   Impossible to enable GPU - Performance

10. CPU over 100% - inDesign not usable

    Within in hour of using inDesign the CPU goes up to 1000% of CPU usage without any reasons. No matter if I'm working on a blanc space or big files, it react over time.

    Quick solution is to restart the application, within 1 hour of using the CPU goes up again.

    I reinstalled the application and work on a new account.

    Specs:

    iMac (Retina 5K, 27 Zoll, End 2015)
    4 GHz Intel Core i7
    32 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
    AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4096 MB

11. will not open

    indesign will not open documents when I open the program. It shows open but not tabs or home page and will not open any documents. Ive restarted my computer and uninstalled/reinstalled the program and the issue is still happening.

12. Document slowdown when fonts not activated

    When fonts aren't activated in an InDesign document, InDesign CC2019 slows down and is practically unusable unless you activate most or all of the fonts used in the document. This wasn't the case in previous versions of InDesign, when you could deactivate fonts intentionally in order to troubleshoot files. In long form documents that may use multiple fonts, this was an especially useful tool.

    As InDesign documents are frequently separated from their fonts, especially when using font managers instead of Document fonts, this slowdown becomes a burden when checking files in larger workflows and inhibits font troubleshooting. Could the behavior in previous versions of InDesign, where the activation of fonts was not a requirement for file responsiveness?

13. Severe performance issues

    Using Version 14.0.3 on a MacBook Pro. Every time I try to switch from one object to another the program gives me a spinning wheel of death for about a minute (sometimes more...sometimes I have to force quit/restart). I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app completely. This happens regardless of the document that I have open, even just a text document with no images, etc. There is no crash, the program just freezes entirely.

14. Slow InDesign

    This latest update for late August/September is really really really slow. It lags crazy. It's not efficient to work in. Even with small documents.
    It's the most unpleasant InDesign experience ever!

15. can't close file

    Running InDesign CC 17 (12.1.0.56). Having to quit app every time I want to close a file. When trying to close file, application frame remains, but I can not close it or minimize it, or open other files. Am quitting app every time I need to open a new file.

16. Slow performance

    Lately InDesign is nearly unusable. Almost every action from selecting objects, resizing objects, or moving objects comes with a really slow reaction time. Even when clicking between panels in the toolbar there is a delay of about half a second.

    I have tried ruling out potential issues like updating graphic drivers and embedding all resources into the document. Nothing works it seems like the application is just unstable. Please advise, I love to work with indesign but this is overall a very bad user experience.

    Customer comments

    • InDesign lags when rearranging text boxes, adding image frames, adjusting frames that already exist
    • Selecting an item (e.g. text frame) in small and really uncomplicated documents has slight but very noticeable delays/lags, almost as if the click hangs and makes the item drag a little instead of just being selected.
    • Performance degradation is observed if more than 1 document is opened
    • Creating packages (File > Package) takes so much time – especially collecting image files into the Links-folder. This behavior is generally observed with Illustrator files.
    • Performance degradation is observed while working on indd document and not with the IDML of the indd document.
    • Lag observed for almost every action from selecting objects, resizing objects, or moving objects

    Troubleshooting steps tried to resolve issues

    • Disable 3rd party plugins - One of the customer has tried with Suitcase Fusion but there was no improvement in the performance.

    Workarounds

    • Change the name of the image folder to disable the dynamic links to picture.
    • Exporting the document to IDML and working on it. Once the document is saved, the performance degradation is observed.
    • Disabling network and internet helps in improving the performance.

    Next Steps 

    • Please provide the number of links in the document when you start facing performance issues
    • Does turning off Links panel help improve performance?
    • Where do you link image from Local/Network/Shared Drives(One drive, Drop box etc)
    • All the machines mentioned in the UserVoice thread are intel based. Performance for Apple Silicon/M1/M2 machines is way better than Intel machines. Is there any user who is using Apple Silicon/M1/M2 and facing performance issues.

17. Cannot save under a new name error code 1, network share, InDesign 2019

    When I am trying to save InDesign document to a network share using Save As or using Save a Copy, InDesign comes up with an error message saying 'Cannot save, file is damaged, error code 1'.
    InDesign 2019 is up to date.

    Are you able to saveAs/ SaveACopy the file locally?
    What is the exact version of InDesign 2019 are you using? 14.0.1/14.0.2/14.0.3?
    Is it happening with all InDesign files?
    Which OS version are you using?

18. indesign cursor lag

    My cursor is lagging while passing over portions of the Layers Panel specifically.
    I'm working on a Macbook Pro, with a BenQ GW2765 external monitor.
    The issue only happens while InDesign is on the external monitor, and it works fine while on the macbook pro.
    I've attached a video sample of the issue in action.

    We have identified that this occurs when you connect your Macbook Pro with an external monitor using the older, obsolete Apple adapter.

    On using the newer, updated model of the Apple adapter, this issue does not occur. Many of our users have confirmed this.

    Please share what hardware you’re using to connect the external monitor to your MBP.

19. New document dialog is extremly slow

    If I want to create a new document the dialog news at least 10 sec to open. After that I can set my defaults but when I click the »create«-button it takes another 10 to 20 sec until the new document is created. The fans are blowing like ****.

20. STILL stuck in hand tool InDesign

    Stuck in hand tool... YES I read the existing thread... NO none of those fixes work. Adobe, PLEASE supply a REAL, PERMANENT fix.

    Running 2015 MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch, Mojave 10.14 2.8 GHz

    I have NO OTHER programs running. RESTARTING neither the app nor the computer helped. I can't perform ANY tasks in InDesign.
