  1. Character Panel/Properties Panel font display font not correct for GREP-Styles

    Indesign CC 14.0.1, x64

IF a GREP-style is at work formatting found text-style-ranges, then the font style dropdown in character panel/properties panel/control panel, may not correctly reflect the font in a selection . Please see screenshot attached.

In the screenshot, a paragraph format grep style has applied a character style "bold" to the word "Foto:" and "Text:". The user has selected the characters OT from the word "Foto:" as an example. The character panel font style should say "Bold", ... as you can see "Light caps" is NOT correct.

  2. Arabic

Using Adobe Arabic font, and paragraph set to Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer, when I copy in Arabic with a period at the end of the sentence, InDesign is interpreting the period as Roman/English text and placing it to the far right of the sentence, instead of at the end of the sentence (far left).

This is new since I last worked in these files in March of this year.

  3. Paragraph-style grep functions are unreliable

inDesign paragraph-style grep functions are unreliable. I have two examples with differing issues in a monthly publication.

The first is a query for web addresses and emails based on common TLDs. I have used it for years.
    \b\S+(.com|.org|.gov|.edu|.net|.UK|.ca|.uk|.ly)((\s)|[^>])\;:\s(.\s)(\,\s)]+)

In the same document, on the same text, the style change query works, and then doesn't work in another paragraph style. To make it more confusing, if I remove the pathname variables it will then work. If I past the variables back in, it will still work.

Even simple match queries will need to be edited into different syntax to work from…

  4. Apply Overrides to style using option click not working

    1. InDesign CC2019
    2. option-clicking on a style sheet should apply it with clear overrides.
    3. it doesn’t. You have to right click on it to Apply ‘style’ clear overriders

  5. Text has Overrides when copy/pasted within the same text frame

This is with regards to InDesign 13.1
As you can see in the screenshot, when I copy a text and put it in the same text frame (same paragraph style) it automatically has an override.
Hovering over the name of the paragraph style does not show the deviation, but right-clicking allows to clear all overrides (which successfully removes them).

It is quite annoying to get an override every time I copy text or a text frame.

  6. Cell styles are not selected in the panel when applied through a Table style

    InDesign CC 2018
Set up a table style and apply it to a table.
In the Table style, define a Cell style to be used.
In the CELL style, define a Paragraph style to be used. In the same Cell style also set a Text inset (to be sure you see that the cell style is in effect).

Now put the text cursor inside a table cell, and notice how the currect Table style is selected in the Table styles panel, and also the correct paragraph Style in the Paragraph Panel.
But in the Cell Style panel, there is no…

  7. two font sizes listed in character panel

I am applying a paragraph style and for some reason the font size was not changing to the size specified. There is no character style applied to the text to override the paragraph style. I did notice that my character panel showed two font sizes, with the second size, the one I want, in parenthesis. Not sure what is going on here.

The font size in parentheses is the new font size when the document has been resized using Liquid Layout’s Scale rule. The font size outside the parentheses is the original font size – that is, it looks like this:
    Original Font Size(New Font Size) – eg., 12 pt(8.1).
Have you selected an Alternate Layout page where this rule was applied?

  8. "Select all unused" triggers "Small panel rows" in Styles palette

    Version: 14.0.0.130

STR: Select "Select all unused" in Paragraph or Character Styles pallet

ER: Should select all styles not used in current document

AR: Triggers "Small panel rows" instead

  9. No brake style broke All Caps style

In Polish language I'm using no break GREP in style to automatically correct hanging letters at the end of the line. When I have this GREP and change style to 'all caps' it doesn't affect letters with 'no break'!
It worked fine with all CC versions till latest update! Why Adobe with the latest version release always broke something that work for years

  10. Drop CAP Extends to the Next Paragraph

When a paragraph using a drop initial has fewer lines than what is indicated in the drop initial dialog, the following paragraph indents for as many lines as is missing in the previous drop initial paragraph, even if the following paragraph has space between it and the preceding drop initial paragraph.

The attached example shows a 1 line paragraph with drop a initial set up as 2 lines. The next paragraph indents.

I think it very odd that the drop initial formatting goes beyond the paragraph to which it is applied. Took me a bit to figure out where the…

  12. Endnote Font Size Problems

    Version: InDesign 14

Steps: When placing an endnote in a frame "Loaded by Place Curser", the font size used for the end note does not honor the font size determined by the style. This includes when the paragraph style is set in the endnote options, as well as when the paragraph style is applied by selecting the endnote text.

    1. Create endnote style, and set it in endnote options
    2. Set endnote text frame to "loaded by place curser" in endnote options
    3. Add an endnote to the text, and place endnote text frame
    4. The Endnote text added to this frame does not…

  14. can't load paragraph styles from another document

    1. Potential bug in InDesign CC version 13.1:

    2. Open a book, select a document from the list, add a paragraph style, and save. Open another document and attempt to load paragraph styles from first document.

    3. Expect new paragraph styles to be added to the second document.

    4. Actual result, new paragraph styles are not even listed in the dialog.

  15. When dragging/rearranging object styles in Object Styles panel, it doesn't scroll.

When dragging/rearranging object styles in Object Styles panel, it doesn't scroll. I have to drop the selected item at the top of the list, scroll up & then repeat until I get it to the position in the list that I'm after.

  16. Align Towards Spine/Away From Spine in Slug Area

Not sure if this is better as bug report or feature request . . .

Spine alignment options do not work for text in Slug Area. For example, text set to Align Towards Spine and positioned in the slug area beside a recto page does not align toward spine.

It makes sense why spine alignment for objects generally might not work for text not touching a page, since the pasteboard does not have a spine, but the slug area should be recognized as an extension of the page (or, at least, the requirements of the page).

  17. Cannot add CC Library P/C styles to documents more than one at a time

New problem: suddenly I can't add paragraph/character styles from CC Libraries to documents unless I choose them one-by-one.
(I'm trying to overwrite a previous version of the same styles, which to date I have done without issue nearly every day for months.)
I have made no changes to my system (InDesign2018 Version 13.1 on Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.4).

    Description of behavior:

    1. Select list of Character (or Paragraph) styles and right-click to use option to add to the current document. "Add" option NOT available.

    2. Select single Character (or Paragraph) style and right click to use option to add to the…

  18. Data Merge Preview drops Paragraph Styles with Nested Styles

Suppose you want to merge data, and format it with nested styles. For example, you want one word to be red, and the other blue. If the cell is empty, remove the line.

This works as intended until you 'Preview' the document. When you view a record without data, then move to the next, the paragraph style is lost entirely!

For example, I use this technique to merge many restaurant menus for many locations. A food item is regular up to a '$'. Then the price is italicized. Some locations don't offer this item. If I were to Preview one…

  19. Indesign 13.1 x64 (PC), Cell styles, Ignore option not working

I can't get the "Ignore" option to work when setting up cell styles, I've had it working on previous versions, but now it won't stay (it needs to show in the rule type and colour setting selector panel but when I select "Ignore" nothing shows in the panel - it needs to display the "Ignore" setting). An example of when you might use it is if you've set up a table with various cell styles, eg header row, thin underlines, thick underlines and a table end rule and then want to apply a tint panel to all, or some of…

  20. Bold

Upon defining a style with its only attributes set to “Bold”, the “Style Settings” box still reports its attributes as “[None]” (without stating that it’s actually “[None] + Bold]”). The “Basic Characters Format” still states it to be “Bold”.

I encountered this as a nested-style which relies on a “Bold” style stopped setting its Bold where necessary. The document was a previous-version-created document, and I began a fresh document re-defining all styles. The unreported-Bold attribute behaviour is evident in the newly created v13.1 InDesign document.
