1. Indesign v19 (2024) changes line breaks of paragraphs in documents created in v18.5 (2023)

   I wanted to export a finished document (a book) made with Indesign Version 18.5 (2023) after updating to Version 19 (2024). After exporting I noticed that the word-wrapping was ruined and images on wrong pages because at some points in the document the line breaks were different and it made the paragraph a line longer than before and thus ruining the following textwrap.

   If I open the document with the old indesign version, everything is fine. I compared the preferences and everything is identical. In both cases the paragraphs use the single-line-composer and the justification is not changed either.

   Is this a bug or a result of different versions? I never really had a problem of wrong line breaks after updating and it's not acceptable when continuously working on multiple projects over the course of months when updating indesign each year is necessary.

2. Fonts not previewing correctly when choosing different font from menu

   Running InDesign v19.0, but had exactly the same issue in previous versions -

   If I want to swap out an existing font for a new one in a text block in my project, the font does not preview instantaneously or correctly when I am scrolling through the Character menu. Sometimes, the font disappears completely, leaving only black blocks to preview. When I press return the text block does update to the new font but not being able to live preview is making it extremely hard to make design decisions and also see if the chosen font will fit the space assigned in that particular font style. Two examples of my problem below.

5. optical margin alignment

   InDesign 19.0 (2024): Optical margin alignment does not work (well), contrary to the previous versions. The problem doesn not depend on a certain font, it is a general problem.

6. Google font unusable after 2024 update.

   1. InDesign 2024, Google font Big Shoulders Display (variable width) stopped working properly between 2023 and 2024 updates.
   2. I tried changing character attributes, pacakging the file and deleting the Document fonts folder (suggested in Adobe Community)
   3. Expected the font to work properly
   4. Font does not work properly

7. incorrect phone numbers in right to left flow text boxes

   Number flow incorrect in right to left text boxes:
   In InDesign V18.5, phone number flows in correct order,
   In InDesign V19.0, phone number is treated as a series of three sets of numbers and is displayed incorrectly

8. RtoL languages/Phone number bug

   I have a document that mixes mulitple languages and includes phone numbers in these paragraphs.
   The RtoL languages (Arabic, Farsi, Urdu for example) is flipping the phone numbers the wrong direction in the text.

   I'm using Indesign 2024, version 19, and the World-Ready Paragraph composer.

9. Adding stroke on text box, set to outside, descenders of type are cut off

   Create a text box. Add stroke. Set stroke to outside. Descenders of font in box are cut off.

10. fontproblem – strange ligatures – invisible font

    Hi there

    In InDesign CC23 we have the problem that we sometimes have some issues with ligatures. We have the font Minion Pro activates in the Library. and somehow have the problem, that the ligatures appear to be a completely different character, see the screenshot.
    the problem could be resolved by deleting the Minion Font from the application folder > Ressources > Required > Fonts. the Ligatures changed back to the correct character. Or i deactivate the minion regular in the finder. But i need the font for other apps as well, so i need to activate the regular font as well.

    Other Problem as well with Minion. We accidentally activated the Font through our Font Tool as well through Adobe Cloud. That brought us the problem, that the complete Font isn’t visible in InDesign or compressed as ****, so a complete Textline is less than 1/2mm in width.

11. Selecting text in table inside Story Editor

    InDesign 19.0

    When I try to select text in a table using Story Editor, the mouse selects text starting one character to the right from where I click. This starts in the 2nd row of text. For each row below that, the selection starts one additional character to the right.

    For example, I have a table with 5 rows and each row has the text 'ABCDEFG'. If I try and select the letter 'A' on row 2 by clicking at the start of the text and dragging to the right, the selected text will skip the letter 'A' and start the selection with the 2nd character, 'B'. If I try and do the same thing on row 5, the selection will jump to letter 'E', which coincidentally is the 5th character

    This behavior occurs no matter how many rows and columns the table has. Selecting text outside of the Story Editor works fine.

    Also, Story Editor is showing an extra paragraph in each row when there isn't one. Cannot delete this extra paragraph.

    Bug was confirmed on another computer in our office running ID 19.0

12. Optical margin

    Optical margin behaves oddly in InDesign 19.0. I've attached a screen recording showing this behavior:

    This is a file that had been created in a previous version of ID—probably 13 or so—and has handled migration to subsequent versions gracefully. However, when I opened it in 19 and attempted to edit some text, the optical margin in that paragraph behaves strangely, turning itself off on certain lines.

    Deactivating and reactivating optical margin does not correct it. Some adjustment is made, but not enough.

    I haven't been able to reproduce this behavior in text blocks created in 19, so it appears to be an issue with files created in previous versions of ID.

13. Logical bug: font weight change to bold and back

    System: ID version 17.4.2 on Windows 10.
    Problem: some fonts have weights like "Light", next to Regular and Bold. If a text is set to weight Light and you change to Bold by Ctrl+Shift+B, the text becomes bold. When changing it back, it doesn't become Light, but Regular. The logic would be to check if there is a paragraph style applied and what's its default weight and use this when "unbolding".

14. Adobe InDesign 2024(v19.0) - For Hebrew Text, after applying Forced line break -The character direction changes to Left-to-right direction.

    When typing a paragraph in Hebrew there is a problem when doing Forced line break. The character direction become Left-to-right direction, insted of keeping the Right-to-left direction.

16. Keyboard Right and Left arrow same as Up and Down Arrow

    InDesign version 19.0 x64 English תומך עברית

    The Keyboard Right arrow is moving the curser one line up, and the Keyboard Left arrow is moving the curse on line down, instaed of moving the curser right or left.
    The keyboard shortcuts are showing the correct behavior, but in fact it's incorrect.

    To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. However, we are unable to reproduce the issue inhouse and would need more information 

    • Are you using any Plug-in or non-supported/non unicode/non-OpenType fonts?

    • Video recording of the crash?

18. Issue with Word Breaks in Dictionaries on InDesign (last version)

    Dear Technical Support Team,

    I am writing to inform you about an issue I am experiencing with word breaks in dictionaries, primarily in UK English (the Canadian one has fewer problems), German (2006 reform with Duden activated), and Danish, which are the languages I use the most. This problem has also arisen in other languages. I always switch the dictionary according to the language of the text I am working on. I have mainly encountered these errors using InDesign, but it has also happened to me in Illustrator. Clearly, the word break functionality is not working correctly, and syllabication is not accurately assigned, so it is not being applied correctly. This issue is adversely affecting the workflow as we are forced to resort to dictionaries to verify word breaks provided by InDesign, incurring an inevitable additional time investment.

    As an example, I have listed the following words below for you to verify how the UK English dictionary does not correctly break them:

    challenges
    consequences
    entrances
    homogenous
    inhabitants
    measure
    I attach a pdf with clear examples.

    This problem is causing significant difficulties in editing and reviewing documents, as well as in ensuring their linguistic quality. It is essential that this functionality is reviewed and resolved to have confidence in these dictionaries and work efficiently and accurately.

19. V18.4-18.5 Text boxes shrinking fractional and hiding last line of text PLUS then 'over-set text' error message not flagging this problem up

    I sent a job to print and after it came back 3 text boxes had shrunk fractionally to hide the last line of text. When I then went to make a press-ready pdf, it didn't flag up this error by warning me of "over-set text", so I did not catch this problem in time.

    My stage 5 of the document, and then the final artwork file for it, with the boxes highlighted.

    I didn't get any warning messages for 'over-set text' to flag this missing text up.

20. New cross reference dialog: search bug

    May be this isn't a bug per se, but it's nasty. When having the "New cross reference" dialog open and with no particular paragraph being selected, you see lots of garbage in the list on the right side. If you search for a specific headline, you'll find it, but not being listed in its actual format, but with the page number attached. You might then think this is just for display, but no, if you add it that way, it adds the text of the cross-ref as shown in the list, with page number. Even if you selected a cross-ref format without page number.

    For me, this is a concept flaw.
