  1. Undo does not work properly on deleted text, it only deletes one character at a time instead of whole block of text

    I am on a Mac and this is a problem with InDesign 2018.

    If you backspace delete two or more characters from text, undo (Ctrl+Z) only restores one character at a time instead of the whole block that was deleted in that action.

    Undo worked fine in previous versions of InDesign, and it works fine in Word and other apps.

    I have tried deleting InDesign preferences and caches and even reinstalled it with import previous prefereces unchecked, but the problem remains, and I cannot find any solution. Can someone please help?

  2. Discretionary Line Break doesn't work in CC 2018

    In InDesign CC 2018, text won't automatically break where a Discretionary Line Break is inserted—such as after an Em-dash. This feature worked in InDesign CS6.

  3. World Ready Paragraph Composer not working for Tibetan

    Adobe 2017.1 release, build 12.1.0.56

    Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer (AWRPC) for Tibetan fonts does not work in InDesign. While this was not an issue in CS4 since the Adobe Paragraph Composer (APC) was working well for at least two fonts (Jomolhari-ID and SambhotaUnicode), it has become an issue preventing us from using any later versions of InDesign: the APC became unusable for Jomolhari (our main font), and since the AWRPC was never completely working, we are now in a situation where neither APC or AWRPC works… (though SambhotaUnicode still works for APC only).

    Jomolhari-ID can be downloaded here: https://collab.its.virginia.edu/access/content/group/26a34146-33a6-48ce-001e-f16ce7908a6a/Tibetan%20fonts/Tibetan%20Unicode%20Fonts/Jomolhari-ID-a3d.zip

  4. Spell checker in InDesign CC2018 (13.0) has lost its mind

    InDesign spell check is randomly not recognising everyday words and when I acknowledge it by clicking Ignore All or Skip, it stops again on the very next word to report an Uncapitalised Sentence. This is happening whether I have the Dictionary set to Proximity or Hunspell.

    I cannot find a pattern other than that, but I have now experienced it on ten different InDesign documents. It is very annoying, but I am also left to wonder whether it is actually missing other words that might actually need correction?? PLEASE HELP.

  7. fontproblem – strange ligatures – invisible font

    Hi there

    In InDesign CC23 we have the problem that we sometimes have some issues with ligatures. We have the font Minion Pro activates in the Library. and somehow have the problem, that the ligatures appear to be a completely different character, see the screenshot.
    the problem could be resolved by deleting the Minion Font from the application folder > Ressources > Required > Fonts. the Ligatures changed back to the correct character. Or i deactivate the minion regular in the finder. But i need the font for other apps as well, so i need to activate the regular font…

  8. Weird replacement issue with small caps and breaks

    When text is set in small caps, the German ß ligature gets replaced by ss. When that replacement then is at the end of a line and the word needs to break and wrap around, InDesign creates missing glyphs.
    This is not an issue with the font and it is not a general issue, because Illustrator doesn't do it. It happens with true small caps and with fake ones.

  9. Missing glyphs in a Right-to-Left Paragraph direction

    1. InDesign Middle Eastern Version 18.4.0.56

    2. Steps to reproduce the issues:
      a. In Preferences>Composition>Highlight, turn on Highlight for missing glyphs.
      b. Type in a text box open and closing parenthesis.
      c. Toggle between Right-to-Left and Left-to-Right Paragraph direction.

    3. Expected result: Missing glyphs should not be affected by paragraph direction.

    4. Actual result: When the direction becomes Right-to-Left the parenthesis are highlights as missing glyphs.

    Additional Information:
    If you type one Hebrew letter before and after the parenthesis, the parenthesis will be highlighted with missing glyphs also on Left to Right Paragraph direction.

    I tried with various fonts, all behave the same. Today…

  10. Variable font changes to Italic when a custom axis value is set, without user input. Also, the Italic axis cannot be controlled.

    This may be related to a somewhat similar Illustrator bug:
    https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/46249144-variable-font-changes

    Summary:
    1. Variable fonts that have separate but related roman/italic font files are handled badly by InDesign (and Illustrator). In InDesign, if you set a custom axis value such as Weight or Optical Size, the font changes to Italic immediately. This issue occurs in fonts such as Roboto Serif and Apple SF Pro, which are well-tested, popular, and important by many measures. It also occurs in fonts that have internal data that is known to be good, at least as far as FontBakery testing shows. It doesn’t occur in…

  11. Khmer Line-Breaking Regression Bug

    While much has been fixed, the current version of InDesign 2022 still line-breaks Khmer words/punctuation incorrectly (this used to work in InDesign 5.5 but has been broken since CS 6).

    Here are some sample words/puncuation that break incorrectly (many are names):
    យេស៊ូវ
    អ៊‌ីស្រាអែល
    គ្រីស្ទ
    «...ទោះ
    ជាម្ចាស់
    អាន់ទីយ៉ូក
    ៗ (this should stay with the previous word not break on to its own line)
    អាកំណា
    គ្រី‌ស្ទបរិស័ទ
    បន្សុស
    ខគម្ពីរ
    បូគោ
    ... (should stay together and stay with previous word like in English)
    បូគោ
    ឰយុកោ

    Easiest way to fix this is don't break a line unless there is a zero-width space (U+200B) or a…

  12. Hyperlink shifts when replacing preceding characters

    If I replace a character in front of a hyperlink with multiple characters using Find/Change, the hyperlink shifts.

    (See screeshot: before and after)

    If only one character is replaced, no shift occurs. Tested with InDesign CS6, 2020 and 2021, MacOS.

    Here you can find a test document:

  13. Variable Fonts: Align Stroke to Center shows overlaps

    When using variable fonts, the Align Stroke to Center shows the overlaps in letters with live text (not good). If I use Align Stroke to Outside the overlaps arenʻt shown with live text (good) but once I use Type > Create Outlines the overlaps are shown (not good).

    This happens in many variable fonts, for example Source Code VF Concept (see screenshot attached), but also true with my own variable fonts and those from other type foundries.

    With the non-variable font version, the Stroke looks good in all settings mentioned here. The variable font version should look the same. Thank…

  14. Index sorting: offering choices «letter by letter» vs «word by word» vs user defined

    When generating an index, InDesign has always use letters by letters sorting. It would be far useful if InDesign Index offer the choice between:
    a) letters by letters;
    b) Words by Words;
    or c) Custom user entry

    Having to manually fix multiple level of indexes is painful and make no sense at all with a computer generated content like an Index.

    PS: Affinity Publisher is using «words by words» by default.

  15. Tables with slanted header row

    When tables have long names for column headers, a good design solution is to ***** the header cells and their text, from 20-70 degrees.

    The table still needs to be live, editable, and adjustable (both the cells AND text) so that when needed, the headers can be changed from 60 degrees to 45 degrees.

    And when exported to PDF and EPUB, it needs to have the required accessibility tag structure:
    <Table>
    <TR>
    <TH> (header)
    <TH> (header)
    <TH> (header)
    <TH> (header)
    <TR>
    <TD> (data)
    <TD> (data)
    <TD> (data)
    <TD> (data)

    See attached screen cap of slanted column headers.

    All we can…

  16. Fit frame to content not working for text

    I recently updated to the newest version of InDesign (v 16.0) and "fit frame to content" is not working properly for any of my text boxes. It is leaving about 0.13in at the top of all of my text, and is making aligning in my layout extremely difficult. I double checked to make sure my baselines are set to 0 and my text boxes are set to Align to top, but nothing seems to be fixing it.

  17. paragraph shading where inline table is used

    Indesign all versions:

    I often use pararaph shading to give my text some extra attention. I may also have tables in this text, that require the same shading. But unfortunately, that's not possible with inline tables. When I instead use inline graphics, the shading works as expected.

    Seems like a bug to me!

  19. Text rendering bug – the edited text is rendered over older version of the text

    I work on a book. While editing the book, I face constant rendering issues: the updated text is rendered on top of the unaltered text. It happens irregularly many times a day. The problem is not document oriented nor platform specific. I started to make screenshots in March and the bug is still present.
    It is very annoying. The only solution is to switch to Selection tool and the change select the Text tool. If you seriously edit a document and you face rendering bugs every five minutes, it is pain **********.

  20. GREP match expressions with endnote marker doesn't work correctly

    Some GREP match expressions with endnote marker don't work. For instance:

    (?<=~U)(.|\r|\t)

    returns no result.

    (.)~U

    returns no result.

    The same expressions work fine with footnote marker.
    Error appears in all versions of ID up to current.
