InDesign does not remember window size and position
When opening a document, InDesign should remember the window size and position when it was closed. Illustrator does this, Photoshop does, this BUT NOT INDESIGN!! Why? Please fix it.

No option to hide the Application Bar in 2020
I noticed in 2020 there is no longer the menu option under the Window menu to hide the Application Bar. I'm not sure why this was removed, for people who don't use it it's just in the way and unnecessary especially when you're trying to use InDesign on a small screen, every inch of screen space counts. Im sure there are people out there that use it, and that's great, I'm sure they find it useful in someway, but we all use the application differently so please allow us the ability to turn it on and off.

Background Task Animation Error
Adobe InDesign CC 2018 13.1 (latest version)
macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 (latest version)
Expected result: When a Background Task is being run, the animated progress bar to rise and fall (ex. 0,1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1,0,1...)
Actual result: When a Background Task is being run, the animated progress bar rises and falls incorrectly (ex. 0,1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,0,1,1,2...)I notice this a lot since I am exporting multiple PDFs a day. As soon as each is done, I need to copy them to send via emails/upload to other servers/etc.
8 votesBackground Task Animated Icon has been changed in the recent version of InDesign. It is now shown as a rotating cursor (instead of the stacked cards/hamburger type icon in previous versions).

Workspace disappearing and not being able to get it back
Sometimes all my right-handed Tools, that I carefully assembled in a workspace i like, disappear, like pages, Colors etc. Although being able to click them in den Window-Menu, nothing appears. The only way to get them back is to change to another workspace and re-create my own workspace piece by piece, which then might last a few weeks before not being able to use them again.
Any ideas what goes wrong here?
What should i check?Kind regards, Thomas

Save as... Open, Place... dialog panels too small
In Big Sur, the Save as... (cmd-S) Open (cmd-O) and Place... (cmd-D) dialog boxes are too small. They only offer between three and six lines of text. However, you can drag the panel out to see more folders/files, BUT, it doesn't stick. When you've closed the dialog and open it again, it has reverted to the smaller size.
Photoshop doesn't seem to suffer with this issue, but Illustrator does.

Unable to kill find missing fonts background process
If the preferences setting to automatically find missing fonts is set, there are three major issues:
1/ The background process never times out,
2/ The background process severely degrades InDesign performance for everything else, and
3/ There is no way to manually kill that background process. If we could, then issues 1 and 2 would not be such problems. If the fonts aren't found, or the internet connection is hinky, or if the Adobe servers are under heavy load or having other issues, we could just kill that background process and then either try again later or design an workaround…7 votes -
"Update Library Item" option missing in context menu of Libraries
I am trying to update a library item. It's a previously created library item that I've made changes to. There used to be a contextual menu item called "Update Library Item" but it's gone.
When resetting the prefences with Shift+Option+Command+Control at the start of InDesign or (for me) uninstalling and reinstalling a certain plugin, that menu item appears again.
One user found out this:
Renamed Adobe Indesign folder in ~/Library/Caches. That did the trick for me !!
For the ultimate test, I put back the "old" Adobe Indesign folder and the issue was back again.Link to the old forum…

Indesign 2020 intolerable lag of up to 10 seconds when switching from selection to text tools
Since the latest update, InDesign has extensive trouble switching from selection to text tools. This appears to be exacerbated by having more than one layout file open. I'm running Windows 10 Pro, i9 system with 64GB of ram. I've reinstalled, deleted preferences, reduced fonts installed, deactivated preflight, deactivated opentext options bug on boxes. The problem is very repeatable and proving a major work disruption.

In Japanese version, "Column" is incorrectly translated as "列" instead of "段"
InDesign 15.0.1
There are at least eight places where "Column" should be translated as "段" in the Japanese version, but "列".
Please see the list on the next page along with the Japanese version of the screen capture.

Renaming an object layer by double-clicking is tedious - sometimes non-responsive
When working with layers, select an object, then double click the name to rename, it takes multiple clicks and a delay of several seconds before the name field becomes editable. Why? I don't see any other way to rename the object layer.

Drop-down menu options not highlighting
Visual feedback of selected item works when moving down through list using Down Arrow Key. Visual feedback does not work when moving back up through the list using Up Arrow Key. It will select the correct item, it just doesn't show that the correct item is currently highlighted.

Background Tasks Palette too wide
The Background Tasks Palette is too wide compared to other palettes in the UI (MacOS).
I dock several palettes together to save real estate on my monitor. When I focus on most palettes, the width is 240 pixels, but the Background Tasks palette can't be made narrower than 400 pixels – a 66% increase! If there was a reason to have this palette be so wide I'd understand the limitation, but most of the relevant information in that palette would easily fit within the 240 width.7 votes -
Guides/Gridlines too thin/difficult to see on Retina display
Not sure if really a 'bug', but since upgrading to Apple Retina iMacs, everyone in my office is having trouble seeing gridlines, margins, and guides in the interface. The lines are just extremely thin on Retina displays. I have excellent vision and I find them difficult to see. Other employees with glasses are really struggling. We could really use something in the preferences to slightly increase the thickness of guides.

Command + option + drag no longer copies text box
Have used this feature for 20 years and now the double arrow indicating that a box is being copied shows up, but the text box is not actually copied--the box just moves.
7 votesThis is working as it should – that is, duplicating the selected object.
Please update to the latest available version of InDesign (13.1) via Creative Cloud application. Before launching InDesign, delete the Application Preferences and Caches to ensure that any corrupt preferences are not causing this issue to happen.
Please let us know if you still experience this issue.
Thanks,
