Copy Style Settings textbox
Make the Style Settings box copy/pasteable OR allow a more complex method of style comparisons. Sometimes you make a couple small modifications and you just need to know the differences.

content formatting as styles
The ability to create a content format as a style. Example: currency - so you could have 19.95 or 3 or 12.2, you would have a "currency" style that takes the numbers and reformats as $19.95, $3.00, or $12.20 (with the ability to add character styles to specific elements) - so you could make the cents be superscript, make the decimal disappear. Also adding the option as to whether or not the styling should be virtual (the actual content is not changed, just the appearance) or restyled (it would actually change the content). This could be done in a GREP…

add spacing around word or selection in c-styles
often we use a c-style to make a "highlight" of a word (or group of words), but the highlight stops at the edge of the letter and we must always go back in and add thin spaces on either side of the word so that the highlight has a natural start and finish slightly before and after the selection. It would be nice to have a c-style option to add space to the left and right of the selection.

Left / right justified paragraph control
Have the ability to give greater control to non-justified paragraphs.
As you have word and letter spacing control for justified text, have a similar set of rules that can be applied to line endings and the difference in line ending lengths for a left/right aligned paragraph. Potentially a rule to remove widows and orphans.

Offer "set number value" for a numbered list item
Could you make it possible to right-click a numbered list item so that we can make it start at any number we like?

Ability to create and edit Object styles in the Properties panel
Trying to lessen dependence on existing panels in an attempt to speed up workflow. So if I could create and edit full Object styles by accessing that option—similar to Para and Character styles on Properties panel, that would be great. I know the Properties panel is a work in progress, so hoping this may appear sometime in the not-to-distant future

‘nth of type’ conditions for paragraph styles
In CSS, we can use an nth-of-type() selector to define behaviour for the nth instance of a style. For example, we can make all paragraphs have a first line indent, but use nth-of-type(1) to remove the indent from the first paragraph on the page. This feature also supports (odd) and (even) values for n.
This feature would be extremely useful in Indesign for a range of use cases. Importantly, it would eliminate the need for several styles when typesetting multiple-paragraph block quotes, interview dialogue (indenting/outdenting), drop caps on chapter openings, etc.
For full flexibility, I imagine the feature would offer…

External Styles / Style Libraries to push Style updates dynamically and automatically to all documents.
Please develop some kind of External Style file format, that can be applied locally, and hopefully, via the cloud. But at least locally, PLEASE.
It is a crime that InDesign currently has NO WAY whatsoever to keep multiple documents styles synced. I run into this deeply frustrating problem all the time.
Currently, If I create a template file with some styles, and use that to create documents, and then If I update or refine paragraph styles, character styles, table styles, etc — there is no way for me to easily carry over those same styles to all other documents that…

Styles Option on New Document Settings.
I see far too many younger designers not know how to use or simply refuse to use paragraph styles, character styles, layers, and even master pages.
I'd love to see these options available in the open new document settings, just as we pick the page size, margins and gutters, I'd like styles to be an option.
As a frequent contract designer, there's nothing worse than going into someone else's InDesign document and spending more time organizing the file, making sure the entire document is formatted properly with the correct styles, separating items in proper layers... Anything to help new documents…

Use Image in Paragraph Style
It would be nice and super useful to have the ability to use images instead of solid colors in paragraph styles. for example:
image as text character color (like clipping), image as paragraph shading background, border image, rule image, image as the bullet, etc.4 votes -
Adjust Styles when you Adjust Layout
Discovered that when you use the new adjust layout option to change a document from an A3 to and A4 (for example), the character and paragraph styles already applied when it was A3 do not change to reflect the new text size that has been adjusted when going to A4. So when you go to apply a style to a new piece of text, the formatting is wrong. It also removes the styles that have been previously applied to some of the text. I have searched for a work around and cannot locate one.
Could you please add an option/check…

underline outdent/indents
The border and rules have options to outdent or indent, but the underline style does not. Sometimes you need a character style to highlight a word, and the only way to do that is with the underline style. It doesn't look great when there is no space on either side of the highlight, so you need to add extra spaces before and after the word. Can this be added to the underline style options?
Maybe it should be a new feature called ”highlight.” It would work like Microsoft Word but with options.

Creation of Table of Contents — Adjustable size of the interface window (width and height)
Creation of Table of Contents — Adjustable interface window (width and height)
When working in huge and very complex documents — with dozens and dozens of paragraph styles and very complex table of contents —, the limitations of the interface window are rather annoying. The window cannot namely be expanded to have a better view of the selected styles.
The number of visible styles is namely limited to four (see screenshot). And the width cannot be adjusted either.
It would thus be a considerable improvement if the window size could be customized in order to have a much better view…

Find all instances of a Paragraph Style
Find all instances of a Paragraph Style in a document via the Paragraph Styles panel. Like you can see with Links, be able to view the pages that the styles exist on and jump to these pages by clicking on the page number in the panel or be able to navigate through them with up and down arrows

Map tags to Object Styles
It would be great to map tags to not only paragraph and table styles, but also to object styles. Paragraph styles have some limitations wich object styles don't have.
