  1. Character styles applied to paragraphs apply to bullets as well

99.9% of the time I want bullets to match the text color. When changing the character color via the Paragraph Styles palette or when selecting the text and changing the color via the color palette, the bullets do just that. But when I select text and change the color via a character style, the bullets don't follow suit.

To give you an example of why this would be useful to me, one thing I often end up doing is creating two versions of something: one on a dark background, one on a light background. The only thing different between the…

  2. Allow setting of dashed stroke options in Object Styles

It seems unrational that all other stroke options can be set in the styles but not this one.

  3. Searched styles in Quick Apply or Most used styles

Got a lot of styles. Paragraph, Character, etc. styles. The Quick Apply helps to quickly find the the ones i need. So it would be nice that the last (maybe 5) styles that i searched will be on top of that Quick Apply window.

Or create a new window, and put the most used styles in there.

  4. Arrange Paragraph border and shading

I would be better to have an option to arrange paragraph border and shading as like other objects arranging feature.

  5. Assign paragraph style depending on odd/even page

It would be nice to assign a paragraph style automatically depending on the “value” of a odd or even page? So you can for example make some styles have more margin at the right or left side, depending on odd or even.

Of course you can apply this with different paragraph style, but when a new page appears in the middle of a large document it would be very nice if this can go automatically.

  6. shadow

Adjusting the shadow size so that the shadow can be smaller than the actual object. (As it is possible with CSS box-shadow, for example)

  8. Consistent arrowhead styles

It would be helpful to have the same arrowhead options available for InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Sometimes I need to quickly create a legend in InDesign to match a diagram create in Illustrator, but the options for arrowhead styles are limited/different.

  10. Allow default stroke alignment to be "Inside" even if default stroke is zero

I want to set the default stroke weight to Zero and the alignment to Inside. You can't do this. If you set default weight to Zero the default alignment setting is grayed out. So every time I have to add a stroke to a box I have to change the stroke alignment or it increases the size of the box. (If the default stroke weight is anything other than zero you CAN set the default alignment. Setting the alignment and then changing the stroke back to zero doesn't work. The default of Center returns.)

  11. Waaay back in the mists of time, when using QuarkXPress, I could copy a style to another paragraph with a key command. This saved a step ove

Keyboard shortcut for adopting paragraph style

I see on this forum that at one time InDesign offered this shortcut:
    1. Using the text tool, click in a paragraph.
    2. Hold Option & Shift, then click a Style Sheet formatted paragraph
    3. The paragraph that had the text tool in it is now formatted to the [Option/Shift] clicked paragraph's Style Sheet.

I just tried it in ID CC 2017 with no luck. Now the Notes palette opens.

Please bring it back. It was one of QkXP's best features, a major time saver. Way faster than opening the Styles palette and clicking…

  12. Need a tutorial on forcing a paragraph style to actually work

I've been sporadically hunting for a year on how to force a paragraph style to actually work in a text box. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Yes, I've tried the option bit. All I want is for the right margins to be the same, and to have a bottom margin that will keep the last line X amount of line-height from the bottom of the text box.

  13. Add ALL table and cell properties to table and cell styles

It's really confusing to have table and cell styles that only affect a subset of properties. Since I love using styles as a best practice, it never occurred to me that I was missing properties until running into numerous issues and doing a ton of research.
Examples of missing properties are header/footer rows for tables, and keep options for rows.

  15. Height & width in object styles needs more options

I did try out the new H&W feature in CC2018 using it on a image frame with a picture inside it. I anchored it to the heading of each chapter and wanted to see if I could resize the image from the object style panel. This did not work the way I was hoping for; There is no way to lock the H&W proportions so that the frame fits the image dimensions. I could not determine a reference point from where the frame is growing. A great upgrade to the feature would be: Lock proportions, scale content with the frame…

  16. font weight mapping

Different font foundries/designers have different ideas on how to name the font weight. Unfortunately this causes problems, when you want using (character) styles like "BOLD" or "ITALIC".

More often then not, you need to change the definition (from "bold" to "65 bold" or "Italic" to "oblique") when changing the font.

If you have multi-font documents, you even need to assign styles according to the font instead of the weight. Building a hierarchy of styles gets more complicated too.

The idea is to have a table of weight mapping like:
    65 bold = bold;
    bold = bold;
    45 light = light;…

  17. conditional GREP formatting

We need to add conditional GREP formatting. For eg. in screen 1 (yellow highlighted text) tagged in xml, and are able capture with GREP styling. But when we put condition, it also captures unwanted text in same GREP style (cyan highlighted), tagged with same xml tag. It would be great as conditional text, i.e.. "IF x=y then DO 'this'" OTHERWISE APPLY 'this style'.

If such option available in indesign, it would be a great help as we are doing frontend xml publishing.

  18. Paragraph Borders: Inset vs Offset or "Keep Within Frame"

LOVE that borders and shading are now built into paragraph styles; but, I would like to be able to create a paragraph border with an inset (instead of an offset), or something like the "keep in frame" option for paragraph rules. The result is a paragraph outline in line with the other paragraphs above and below it, but with an inset paragraph inside the border.

  19. Paragraph Border Controls when Split across Columns or Frames

There needs to be a control that "If paragraph breaks between columns or frames" restricts the paragraph border to: "baseline" , "cap-height" and perhaps a value offset for this. At the very least there needs to be the "clip to frame" option for paragraph border like there is for paragraph shading. However, the controls for baseline and cap-height would be ideal.

  20. Allow set Style Override Highlighter as red stroke instead of blue background color so that it does not obscure style highlighting

Style Override Highlighter's appearance (blue background) conflicts with the still existing feature of highlighting styles with different colors, in order to visually identify what parts of the text use what style, accessible via scripts such as Stylighter (http://www.indiscripts.com/post/2013/11/stylighter-1-4-for-indesign-cs4-cs5-cs6-cc).

Being able to set it back to red stroke over text instead of a background color, as it was before the Style Override Highlighter button was officially added, would allow to see at the same time the style being used (by the color of the background) and whether it had overrides (by the presence of a red stroke). That was…
