Center applied style in style panels
When I click on a paragraph or character with the text tool, InDesign’s style panel automatically jumps to and highlights the paragraph or character style, which is applied to the paragraph or character.
(From now on please read the word »style« as »paragraph or character style«.)But sadly the applied style is always shown as the very last item or the very first in the visible list of style panel. There are styles above and styles below this style in the whole list. (See »Standard-behaviour.png«.)
It’s easy to access the items above (respectively below): I simply can click on them.…

a separate panel for overrides on character or paragraph styles
The 'hover over the style' trick to display what the override is, doesn't work consistently.
I separate info panel would speed up my work flow immensely.1 vote -
More options for importing text styles
Please add extra options (in the screenshot), the two I would mostly love is only keep bold and italic styles.
Have a lot of text every day to import from word, with lots of bold and italic noted words.
I think a lot of people would love this feature!

Paragraph Style Groups and... Paragraph Style versioning
It would be nice to create named subversions of the same style instead of just marking the changed paragraph styles with a + sign.
Then such subversions of one style will be saved with an additional qualifying name, and they can be quickly assigned in the right place in the text, instead of manually marking up the text.
This is somewhat similar to the existing style group, but with slightly different functionality.
Let's say we need to build a table of contents. In this case, each heading has its own level of hierarchy, but several different paragraph styles cannot be…

Multi Level Running Headers with Numbering
Add the ability to have multiple running headers. Specifically for multi-level lists that include numbering. Currently you can only select one paragraph style and it doesn't include numbering. It would be great to be able to create breadcrumbs for multi-level lists so you can show which section and subsection you're in INCLUDING NUMBERING. Currently the running header drops the numbering which is annoying.

To add an option to add a customized numbering format.
Is there the feature to add a customized numbering format? I do not think InDesign has thus I would like to request the feature. There are several languages in the world and their own alphabets. As there are already created numbering formats such as "a, b, c,...." that falls under English alphabets under 'Bullets and Numbering', there should be the feature to create such numbering format as per the alphabets of other languages too. Thanks.

Differentiate Native Styles vs Styles that came in with copy/pasted text
I would like for there to be some type of differentiation between Styles in documents when copy/pasting or bringing in new styles. Old styles get mixed up with new ones, some have the same names (body copy for example) so it's hard to tell which ones are from pasted copy and which are the ones I'm currently using in my document.
Open to any format as long as the Styles from the original document are all in one grouping and any styles from Copy/Pasted text are in another distinct grouping. This could be done by folders, or color-coding, splitting the…

Object Layer Options to be part of Object Styles
Allow Object Layer Options to be included as an attribute for Object Styles.
Example: I have an annual report for a group of charities under one umbrella organization. It lists various projects the charities are working on. Some projects are operated by only one charity, some two, some all three. I have an Illustrator file with a graphic for each charity. I use Object Layer Styles to show or hide the symbols for each charity. I must use Object Layer Options for each use of this graphic to indicate which charity(s) are operating each project. It can be very time…

The ability to make text invisible or 'replacing' it with '___' using the Character Style
I recently worked with a publication that needed to hide part of the text in different places. The full text also had to be shown next to it.
It would be possible to arrange this by means of GREP-styles, if it were possible to use some kind of pseudo font with zero character width or something like.
Also it would be useful having an opportunity visually replace any symbol with underline (such an idea is often using in a language textbooks) using character styles.0 votes -
addition of style override menu option
Please provide a menu option to override a style. Going to and from the associated style menu is time consuming and and would be easier if I could at least use keyboard navigation to access a menu option under the type, object or table menu headings to activate it.

Spec Sheet for Paragraph Styles
I recently came across the need to print out a spec sheet of paragraph style settings from INDD. We're working with an outside vendor who is programming a proposal builder platform for our business development team. Basically, my design team created branded layout templates in INDD. We gave the vendor our native files, but their programmers need a written spec sheet of all the paragraph style attributes. From the paragraph style palette, when you go into each style, you can see the style settings, but you can't copy that text, nor export the settings as a spec sheet. I doubt…

Symbols panel / Quick apply formatting
Not sure if this suggestion lives under styles. What I'm thinking InDesign needs is a feature like Illustrators symbol library where we can take a group of pre styled objects and define them so that they can be easily dragged back on to the page rather than continually copying and pasting from other parts of a document on to then overtype or swap out images etc. as you build documents consisting of replicable structured content.
Functionality would need to be like Illustrator, a simple drag and drop interface on to a panel. So that any images, shapes, text frames, styles.…

Shorthand Styles Panel
If someone doesn’t want to have to type the words 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑘 𝑦𝑜𝑢 over and over, they simply click 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭 > 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 > 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭 > 𝐀𝐝𝐝:
𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝: ty
𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: thank youThat is the typical way users do it. If Adobe can make a new panel called 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐬 that would be helpful. It would function almost like 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐬 but be it’s own separate entity:
1. Select the words 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑘 𝑦𝑜𝑢 with your 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐫 (or you can select as many words as you want)
2. Click 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐬
3. Then, click 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞
4. 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞: Compliments

Styles order when importing or book synking
It would be a good thing to keep styles order from source file.
If i have the following list of styles
- Style 1
- Style 2
- Style 3and i create a "Style 2X", i can place ir right above "Style 2". But when it is imported from another file or inked on a book, new style goes to the end of the styles list.
We should have an option like "keep list order" when link or import.
Is it possible to do that?
Thanks!

color limitation in underline text
When I want to have a color in the background of a text (but not the whole block, only the text), I use character style, underline option with strength and negative offset. For the color I can only choose a few others are not available. It would be nice to be able to choose any color. Any example can be found in the attached file. There I would want to have the yellow color in the dark blue color of the logo.

External (Global) Styles — (Paragraph, Character, Table, etc) to sync and apply to multiple documents
It is constantly frustrating that every year Adobe fails to update InDesign with external Style functionality.
It should be easy to define a set of Paragraph Styles and apply that as "Global Style" which can then be used
across multiple InDesign files. Updating a "Global Style" would then apply those Style changes to all affected documents. This should apply to all things that can have styles applied, Table, Object, Paragraph, Character, etc. Any of these different styles should be able to be saved to an External Global Style — that can be then saved externally locally — or saved to the…

Multiple Nested Styles
Expand the nested paragraph styles to include multiple 'Next' options in one Paragraph Style. This would simplify template setups that repeat the same few Paragraph Styles throughout many pages in various combinations. Currently I create numbered copies of the Paragraph Styles to account for all the variations. It would be nice to see one Paragraph Style for each page that contained the all the Next styles rather than having dozens of repeated styles to manage.
