We need real table continuation variables, just like in FrameMaker.

Add the possibility to set cell/line/row height and width in tableformats
We have a lot of tables in our brochures which have to fit in the grid.
It would save a lot of time if I could set, at least, the height of a line as a standard in the table format.
At the moment I have select every table and enter the value. If cells are connected in a row, you have to disconnect them to set the height value. Not very comfortable.

Request for data merge to support table generation
Currently, data merge can generate pages from a master, but it cannot generate tables. This would be a highly useful feature. My designs use a lot of tables that recur with different data.

GREP code table
Make a GREP code for table in Find/Change box dialogue
68 votesHi All,
Can you explain how this would be used, is the end goal to find a some stuff restricting the search to Tables, or is it something else. It would really help if you can share how you plan to use this new GREP code for tables.
Thanks

Need a Tab with GREP/Style Change setting instead of just decimal
SHORT DESCRIPTION: A new type of tab which will accept multiple align characters in a GREP-like statement and/or align on a style change.
The video provides a longer description. In tables involving figures and footnotes, a decimal tab is often not enough. What if the footnote is a number, or the footnote is surrounded by parenthesis? These are things which our clients specify for tables in the financial reporting industry, but apply to other industries as well.
If we could specify multiple characters to align upon, in a GREP-like "or" statement, that would help. Or the ability to align on…

Remove the maximum cell height in tables
I often use tables in more technical posters as a frame for graphics with caption.
I experienced that a cell height of about 220 mm is the maximum for tables.
If you have larger graphics this is not enough.6 votes -

Continuous tables with a secondary header
Where tables with assigned headers and footers need to continue to have headers and footers on subsequent pages when threading, the actual header text is rarely used for any part of the table but the first page of it. Why is there not an option for a secondary header for continued tables? Keep it the same style for the headers, but allow it to be set and editable. It is such a common need, and publication designers are forced to use an inefficient workaround. Please add this "secondary header" option when creating table headers and footers. Thank you.

Tables & Graphs
I would love to have a new tab added in InDesign where you sort of had pre-made templates for graphs and tables and then could modify as needed once inserted into the document. I create many documents that often call for tables and graphs and have to start from scratch and spend sometimes hours perfecting it. It would save so much time to not only have pre-made templates, but also templates we could create ourselves and save and re-insert and populate with new data. And I'd like to have pie charts and other graphs in a similar fashion as well.

Remove trailing whitespace removes carriage return before a table
Grep remove trailing whitespace also removes carriage return before a table. This should not happen but rather table should be seen as a separate paragraph item.

pasting rows into table should add them instead of replace existing one.
When I want to move some rows up or down the table, I must first to add that amount of empty rows in place I want them to paste.
Why the cant be just added above active row in table? It would be much easier.

Add the possibility to add alternative Text to Tables.
like in MS Word.
Reason: we need to publish our print-products as an disability accessable PDF. Sometimes, it is helpful to add an alternative text to the table30 votes -
Linking to Excel files
It would be nice if one could link to an Excel file during placement rather than having to change the preferences on and off.
Also, it would be nice if InDesign remembered how many rows were marked as header rows when updating linked files.

Easier conversion of tables from Word to InDesign
I would love to be able to copy and paste cells exactly as they are in MS Word and MS Excel into a formatted InDesign table. Unfortunately, if there is a hard return in one of the cells in MS, then InDesign reads it as a new cell so you have to copy cell by cell.

Table borders when a table runs over more than one page
When a table runs over more than one page, the border at the bottom of the table is missing on every page except the last.
You have to make a cellformat to correct this.
It causes errors and doble work if you forget to remove the cellformat when the pageflow with the table changes.

Discontiguous selection of rows and columns
Being able to select rows and columns that are not adjacent to one another would useful to me. For example, one would like to select columns 1 to 3 and 5 to 7, leaving column 4 unselected.
Often I need to adjust the width of some columns or the height of some rows, leaving others in the middle of the table unadjusted. One instance is when I use a blank column or row to separate groups of data; another is when several discontiguous columns have much longer labels than other columns.
