Non printing layer attention value
Since the latest update of Adobe CC I noticed that across the suite, when you double click a layer and set it to non-printing, the label is no longer displayed in italic. Thus remaining in the dark on first glance at layer palette if a layer is set to non printing. I use non-printing feature a lot but now I don't have a visual reference anymore. Don't understand why this feature was removed?

Fix bug that makes windows invisible/inaccessible on opening InDesign
Every time I first open InDesign, all the windows are invisible/inaccessible, or the window icons are visible but they don't open. The only solution I've found is to quit and reopen the program, sometimes multiple times. Using InDesign on Mac with High Sierra. Application Frame is off.

Make style name indentations smaller
Lot's of unnecessary whitespace, requires wider than necessary panel widths on smaller screens.

Ability to add color labels to individual styles to better organize and manage large lists of styles
Similar to how pages can be labeled with a color (also see layer colors in Photoshop).

Inline search filter for all styles panels and swatches
Alle styles and swatches panels should have an inline search filter to narrow down large lists of styles (similar to the quick apply window and the layer panel in Photoshop).

Timestamp for jobs in general
It would be cool if the Adobe programs could timestamp the work you do.
So that you could see how much time you use on a project.
There could be variables like if mouse movement and keyboard is inactive in x seconds, the time stops.
And even cooler if the jobs (ai, psd, indd) in a folder could be collected in an overall calculation of time used.
That way, you could tell the customer or your boss, that this jobs was done in 3 hours 32 minutes.4 votes -

Smaller increments when zooming using Keyboard Shortcuts or Mouse Wheel
If someone is using a Mac laptop, the zooms that can be achieved using the trackpad can be very precise, however the zooms with Mouse Wheel or Keyboard Shortcuts can be a bit too "jumpy" and frustrating.
For example it jumps from 50% to 75% to 100%. What I often need given my screen size is 60%.
Maybe if the zooms were smoother all the time it would allow more users to find the right zoom for their comfort, especially if working with several screens17 votes -
Please, make the Indesign Editor side-scrollable using the Laptop Touchpad on Windows 10
The current Indesign Editor can be scrolled vertically, but it does not allow horizontal scrolling using the Laptop Touchpad on Windows 10.
It would be good feature to have.

A menu option for "Recent Templates"
Opened documents only appear in the Recent File list if they are opened "as usual" or "as original". However, templates (and files opened "as copy") do not make it into this list. This means that when working with templates, you have to keep browsing to the right folder – per file first to retrieve the template, then to the folder where you want to save the copy.
I don't think it's correct to add "copy" files to the Recent Documents list as it may lead to additional confusion. A new menu option "Recent Templates" would solve it all – especially…

InDesign Preview For Finder
There really should be an InDesign preview for Mac Finder. This should be a requirement for your software and should not be considered a feature request.

Make it easier to reset preferences and/or clear cache
There are so many folks reporting InDesign issues on the forum recently that are solved by trashing preferences and/or clearing the cache files. This is so easy to address in Photoshop—Prefs > General > Reset Preferences on Quit—and so many steps in InDesign. We have to determine the operating system, address how to show hidden files, etc. Can this please be added to Preferences?

Toggle settings to Auto Update Links
There is much need for a setting (preferably toggle on/off) for updating of linked files automatically. A lot of companies and designers use InDesign to setup presentations, and it can get extremely time consuming having to manually update links as they change.

User interface is getting worse and worse
I am still on CS6, because newer versions have been less stable and don't bring any benefits I need. Now I tried InDesign CC 2018 and realize that the contrast of the UI gets worse (dark grey on light grey or vice versa, additionally you cannot distinguish inactive/greyed-out menu topics), that the palettes needs more space on the screen without any reason for doing this and more dialogs/messages are not on the original OS design but in a new style. I suppose this is for tablet usability, but within this app really makes no sense to me. You are moving…

Replace GUI
It could be usefull if developers could completely replace the existing GUI, and replace it with a custom build GUI. The Indesign engine could then also be used for other purposes than graphic design work.

Make mini-icons easier to see
I am running InDesign 2017.1 on a 1920x1080 monitor. The toolbar icons are quite small, but still usable, except for the ones dealing with color and stroke (lower left corner of UI). The mini-icons are trouble for old eyes and hands. I have tried changing the Windows text size setting to 125%, which improves the mini-icon situation but bloats the whole UI, reducing the work area. All I really want to do is make the color/stroke jumble easier to navigate and use. Everything else is fine as is.

Find/Change Panel -> Dockable ?
I'm struggling with screen estate here (laptop, no other screen) and was wondering about the Find/Change window.
It's floating on top of everything, like a modal window, but you still can interact with everything underneath.
So it is basically acting like a panel.
What I am missing here is an icon + the option to dock it and hide and show when needed.
It is quite a large panel so it very often hides things (results, context) under it.
What about 3 things :
1. "make it a (real) panel", don't change design quick and dirty, but already solves the…161 votes
