Don't open menu after pressing Alt for zoom
Pressing Alt on Windows brings focus to the top menu and pressing a following letter is interpreted as an access key, opening a menu. This in itself is good for accessibility and productivity.
However, in InDesign Alt is also pressed to zoom with the scroll view. I very often press W to toggle preview mode and very, very often press Alt to zoom. Several times an hour the Window menu flies open due to me pressing W after Alt has been pressed.
I suggest scrolling should move focus away from the top menu. This allows you to still use Alt…

PageMaker Command Bar
PLEASE bring back the Pagemaker Command Bar. Many of us are not professional designers who remember and utilize all the keyboard shortcuts so we depended on the command bar for a quick and easy way to make changes in our docs. Those who don't need it or use it can simply keep it hidden.

Make style name indentations smaller
Lot's of unnecessary whitespace, requires wider than necessary panel widths on smaller screens.

Timestamp for jobs in general
It would be cool if the Adobe programs could timestamp the work you do.
So that you could see how much time you use on a project.
There could be variables like if mouse movement and keyboard is inactive in x seconds, the time stops.
And even cooler if the jobs (ai, psd, indd) in a folder could be collected in an overall calculation of time used.
That way, you could tell the customer or your boss, that this jobs was done in 3 hours 32 minutes.4 votes -
Please, make the Indesign Editor side-scrollable using the Laptop Touchpad on Windows 10
The current Indesign Editor can be scrolled vertically, but it does not allow horizontal scrolling using the Laptop Touchpad on Windows 10.
It would be good feature to have.

Styles UI needs to keep up with the times
Styles are implemented in InDesign since... well, for ever. The options and settings grew a lot over the years BUT it still looks and feels the same. Old and unflexible. There is a styles window with your collected styles and to edit those you have your Style Options window. Basically that´s it.
Practically that means you have to open each style individually, make your changes individually (although you want equally changes), check if design and layout still works, edit each style... again... individually.
Please find a way to improve working/handling styles e.g. for collective changes or simultaneously opening multiple Style…

Showing open book files on Start workspace
Situation now:
When opening a book file Indesign adds a book panel showing all contained documents. You can then open documents through this panel. I usually dock the panel to the right with my other panels to keep the workspace tight and clean. But now the tricky part:
When I close all documents I've set Indesign to return to the Start workspace. This shift to another workspace makes the book panel disappear as well (since it is docked with the other panels). I have to go to the menus to find the panel again.
I guess the reason for this…4 votes -
Background tasks and glyphs panel width matching other panels
I would love to be able to incorporate the Background tasks and glyphs panel width to my other panels.
These panels are too wide and so cannot be included in my sidebar

Find/Change match window
When we press any key or click anywhere. It is very uncomfortable to click on the button.

Please fix menu overlap on fly out pages' window
Wasn't sure if I should call this a bug or if it is by design, however, please fix the overlapping of the page indicator/tools on the pages' fly out menu. It overlaps when you have the window be its narrowest.
When this happens I am unable to use the tools (e.g. deleting a page by dragging over the trash icon)4 votes -
object layer options
Please add ability to edit Object Layer Options for more than one copy of the exact same PSD image at one time.

Not truncating filenames in window when relinking
I'd say this is self explanatory and has always been a bug bear to me.

Jump to page 1 = just go to first page already
If my document is numbered pages 43 to 59, for example, and I press Command -J and enter "1" for "Go to page:" PLEASE just take me to the first page in the document! Is that too much to ask? ;-)

What about split screen for different app (ex.: word & indesign)
What about split screen support for different app (ex.: word & indesign)

Please, please, please support Emacs-style key bindings...
...at least for macOS. Virtually all macOS apps, especially those developed by Apple, support Emacs-style key binding that are incredibly useful for text navigation and text selection purposes. As an almost daily use of InDesign—and a 26-year employee of Adobe—I would very much like to see this supported. Most of the commands involve the use of the "control" key, which appears to be unused for InDesign keyboard shortcuts, so this is likely to be a no-brainer.

One desktop for all pages instead of desktops for each seperate page/spread
When copying asset(s) to the desktop you always have to search on wich pages you copied that asset(s). When all pages are on the same desktop, the copied assets are more easy to find, because they are always on one desktop.

Make the layers right hand side squares bigger!
Hi, might just be me, but the little squares to denote in which layer an object is in is too small, or not very co-operative.
If I need to move something from one layer to another, I find it really difficult to hit the target right to move the item, the square is too small.I am not blind, its just the one element of the UI that I constantly don't get a positive result from first time, normally takes 3 attempts!

Working with multiple files - When a file is closed, rather than skipping to the last file, got to the next file in order
Description:
I have multiple files open at once.
When finished working on the first, if I close it, InDesign will skip to the last file that was opened, rather the next file in the order.
See attached - I closed “untitled 1” and it skipped to “untitled 5” rather than going to “untitled 2” which is next in line.
Why this would be valuable:
This interrupts an expected workflow to InDesign's usual left to right UI direction.
InDesign allows users to reorder the file tabs to suit their needs. Skipping to the end file in unexpected behaviour and switching back…

Saving files - please have just filename selected, not extension
This used to be how it was, I can't tell you how much time I waste selecting an insertion point to rename the file.
