  1. Always open a image file on Photoshop

The request is pretty clear in the title. How nice it would be to double-click, with option button hold down, over an image and open it in Photoshop instead of Preview even if the default image application is set to preview.

  2. Object Styles layer assignment function

Give Object Styles the ability to be automatically assigned to a specific layer.

  3. Graphic elements disappear

When I reopen a layered document, the graphic objects disappear. How can I solve?

  4. Option to customize the angle of the stroke cap

It would be nice if we can determine the angle of the stroke cap instead of the default 90°, a simple option that would let you customize it to make sharp caps. I've made a simulation using forms to illustrate what I meant. A nice workaround that you should implement is the basic “outline stroke” feature that exists on Illustrator.

  5. Edit ALL gaps in a selection.

It would be super helpful if you could edit ALL the gaps in a selection of objects with the gap tool, so matter the layout. See attached example of boxes – would be amazing is you could select and edit all gaps with the gap tool, perhaps with a new keyboard shortcut? That is all, thanks in advance! Anders

  7. Ignore effects

Just like you can "Ignore text wrap" it would be very helpful to be able to "Ignore effects" on objects and text frames.

Often you have a lot of shadows and other effects that you don't want certain objects to be affected by.

In the example here I have put a dark outer glow on the text frame that I want to affect the background picture – but not affect the logo or the bar code box.

I know you can get around it with making sure that these objects are put on top of the text frame – or…

  9. A shortcut / button that automatically expands your selected shape to fill the page

I find myself drawing many rectangles a day to create backgrounds for a document. It's obviously no problem at all, but seems the process could be sped up if I could just use a shortcut that automatically resizes a selected shape to fill the page, and it would also remove the potential for error if you haven't quite lined up the rectange correctly. Maybe there's already a solution for this?

  10. Stroke cap and paragraph rule styles

It would be incredibly useful to have the option for more control over the end cap in stroke styles/paragraph rules. For example, in Illustrator there is the option to use a softened end cap as opposed to a straight cut off, but InDesign only has a straight edge option, making it difficult to build an elegant line style without importing it as a graphic (this feature is sorely lacking in pursuits such as book design). The stock line styles feel garish or clunky and it would be oh-so-nice to be able to edit these or have more options to choose…

  12. The Color Tab in the Find/Change dialog box

About the new feature in the Find/Change dialog box, under the Color Tab.
It gives us the choice of finding a color and changing it to another color.

But I've got an instance today where I wanted to change the Text that was Red to Bold & Italics.

There is no option in that dialog box to change a color to a Character Style or a Paragraph Style. I had to find the Red text and then change it manually to a Character Style.

I sincerely think that there should be such option.

  14. Content Aware Bleed

Many files I receive have images placed cropped to the border of pages and when the box is expanded there is no more image there. I would like a function that knows the bleed area, enlarges the image box, and fills in the appropriate image bleed data. This would be similar to the Crop tool in Photoshop with content aware checked on. Perhaps this could be done on an additional layer on top of the current image.

  15. Add a feature like Figma’s Smart Selection rearrange

When creating catalogs or similar things, it would be great to be able to select multiple items and be able to quickly and automatically switch the order of the groups similar to Figma’s Smart Selection

  16. objects selected upon unhide just like illustrator

In Illustrator and InDesign I am able to hide objects in the doc. In Illustrator when I "unhide" all of those objects they show up and are then selected. In InDesign when I "unhide" they merely show up, but are not selected. I don't know if I'm unique in the way I use this feature, but it is very handy to "hide" everything I want to select and then "unhide" to then have the selection. It is useful because with objects that overlap, it can be very cumbersome to find a way to select a bunch of things

  17. I wish Cross References could be used as "callout" text.

I would like to be able to use a sentence inside a paragraph as a callout para so if the sentence is changed inside the paragraph the callout will change. You can do this only if you use the first sentence in the paragraph as the cross reference.

  18. truly floating frames such as are available in FrameMaker

FrameMaker has a fabulous option for anchored frames that allows it to truly "float" in the sense that if the text flow causes the anchor to be too close to the bottom of the page, the floating frame will appear on the following page.
With InDesign the frame will stay on the same page, appear at least partially above the anchor, in which case the text-wrap doesn't get applied so an image inside the frame would for example cover part of the text.
So I would request to implement FrameMaker's version of floating frames!

  20. Add the option to create continuous/smooth curves when rounding corners.

A smooth or continuous curve makes a more smooth transition when rounding the corners of squares or rectangles, so the result is more like a squircle. This eliminates the "bump" where the straight line hits the corner and is more pleasing to the eyes. Sketch has this option when rounding corners and it would be fantastic to have it in InDesign.
