Add an option to rasterize chosen graphic objects on export (especially vectors)
Often we have to work with vectors, and often they take up a lot of space, which leads to the growth of the final PDF document and the slow rendering of the document in browsers. The trick with reducing transparency, when we make the selected frames 99% opaque and turn on the flattener, does not always give a good quality result and can cause stitching.
I suggest adding the option "rasterize" to the settings of the style of the graphic frame, so during the export the vector object is replaced with a raster copy. The quality settings for rasterization can…42 votes -
Implement Adobe Sensei technology into InDesign
I recently attended the Adobe Symposium in Sydney, Australia, (as well as Adobe MAX in Las Vegas) and could not escape the phrase "Adobe Sensei" - Adobe's artificial intelligence software.
That said, is there any ability to implement Adobe Sensei technology into InDesign for any of the following purposes:
- Create a new indesign document based on a scan (for example, if I wanted to quickly create an invoice for a customer and all they had was a previously printed sample, I could scan the invoice and Adobe Sensei would do the rest, resulting in an InDesign file with type and…

Shared graphics within an object box
Please make it possible to share a graphic in an object style. This feature was available 30 years ago in Quicksilver (Interleaf).
For example, we create multiple manuals that are scripts for administrators. When there is a speaking part, clients want a graphic of some sort to indicate that the administrator read the text. Or there are graphics that repeat throughout the document, but at the last minute, something may change. The object style can control so much , why not the content within the object box?
PLEASE!!!!!

Easier way to restart endnote numbering
Thanks for the new endnotes feature. Arrived just in time, as i had to do a book with two extensive sets of notes and was dreading the thought of having to do one set manually.
But having to break the chapters into stories in order to restart numbering on the notes was rather a nuisance. I don't like having to break a book text into stories (creates too many opportunities for things to go wrong). How about creating a function that allows a number restart after a paragraph style? I would think that most users would want to restart each…

Cache remote/server images on local drive for high quality display preview
Yesterday I was working on a document from another office so the server wasn't in the building. I was working on graphics that required hi-res display so I could use them as a guide, but because they were all on the server the performance was abysmal. I realised after a while what the problem was, copied them to my local hard drive and re-linked so everything was much faster.
InDesign should be able to do this automatically: when a large image is not on the local drive, a copy of it could live in a cache somewhere to be used…

Layer nesting facility
The ability to nest layers within layers would be lovely. See image attached - it's a point of sale artwork example which has Adidas shoes and Nike shoes on separate layers with sub-layers for the prices and images - it has a common background on a separate layer. I'd like to be able to nest the 'image' and 'price' folders within each brand folder - this would really help negotiate files can contain up to 20 different brand folders .
Thanks in advance.

Horizontal guides that alter in relation to margins
Horizontal guides that alter in relation to margins if you have to change the page sizing in document setup.
At the moment, if you need to change the page size of a document, you have to manually reset all the horizontal/row guides (e.g. Remove Existing Ruler Guides and reset the number of rows and the gutter). If InDesign automatically recalculated the guides it would save a lot of time.1 vote -
Allow native generation of barcodes
The new QR code capability in InDesign is very handy and speeds up workflow. Please include similar functionality for all barcode types, including those such as: EAN, PostNet, UPC-A, UPC-E, KIX, ISBN, ISSN and others. The user should simply select the barcode type, enter the relevant data, and then InDesign will create a barcode in the proper size according to the standards. Of course, if the user wants to change the size for some reason, the object could be scaled. Allow selection of foreground and background color for the barcode, including transparency as the default. This will greatly speed up…

Swap graphics/images…
I know it exists as a script BUT i've been waiting a loooong time to get a very basic SWAP function between 2 inDesign frames'content.
Say I have 2 frames on a page, one contains image A, the other contains image B.
I select the 2 frames, in object menu, I have one option (usually grayed out if 0, 1, 3 or more objects are selected) (+ same in contextual right-click menu).
That option says "swap images" (in french "permuter les images").
Everything in one frame goes to the other.
That implies groups of items.
That implies taking care of…

chart panel
It would be great to have a chart panel that allowed you to make charts and graphs from indesign. Something with the same capabilities as powerpoint chart/graph making tool.

Put spinners back in Object>Tranform
Bug, oversight, or poor design has eliminated the spinners that allow me to efficiently resize and reposition an object. Please put them back - I use them constantly.

List of all buttons in a file
We regularly have to create quite complex interactive PDFs with many buttons. It would be great to have a view like the Links panel that displays all of the buttons in a document, with where they go and which page they are on with a link to jump to that button (again like the Links panel).

Create strokes/guides for Production purposes.
When creating a layout that requires fold lines, these strokes could be placed across the layout BUT only show up in the slug/bleed area. This would eliminate 2 smaller strokes on either side of the doc or one continuous stroke with a white box over the center portion.

Smart Guides for Grid Spacing
In this feature Smart Guides would recognize grid spacing for object groups. So say you have three boxes equally spaced, you select all three, and alt drag to create duplicates below. Smart Guides would recognize the spacing you have in the first three boxes, and would apply that same perpendicular spacing to the three new boxes so you have a perfect grid spacing between all 6 boxes.

Column rules
I think Column Rules in the Text Box dialog would be a winner. Easily add a vertical rule to left, right and mid gutter.
8 votesWe added Column Rules functionality in InDesign 2020. Please try it out.

file / open recent (preview small thumbnail)
Hi - I would find it really useful if there was a feature - file / open recent (preview small thumbnail) . Sometimes the file name itself isn't enough, in particular if you are working on lots of files quickly. if there was a thumbnail at file/open recent it would help to locate the particular file better.
love indesign - thank you.
