Snap Tabs to document grid / Distribute Tabs
I think it would be great when setting Tabs, this would snap to the document grid. Saves a lot of time in contrast to setting each tab numerically.
Another great addition would be the possibility to Distribute tabs. Comes in handy with imported text where sequential standard tabs were used.3 votes -
Procentual increasing of font size
When a text box has multiple text sizes and you want to increase all the sizes, it would be great to be able to do that with for example procentual increasing.

Kerning Issues Between Text and Tabs
A detail about kerning/tracking that seems to have slipped through the cracks: how text and tabs interact with each other in Indesign.
I noticed this while doing fillable forms with underscores. The space after the type wildly varies in distance, and from what I can tell, there is no way to automatically or manually adjust it. I tried switching kerning between manual and optical, with no results. I tried manually adjusting the kerning, which doesn't affect it either. The spacing seems to be related to the length of the text.

Separate text into different boxes in one stroke
We've all been handed a huge text file and asked to create a new document. From the sub par word processing program it came from, we begin the mind numbing process of cut/copy/paste.
You can cut headers, sub headers etc. and paste them into their own text box. But when you have to do it five hundred times, it's awful. And no, reflowable text is not the solution.
What if you could drag a selection around the text you needed to be separate and it would "snap" into it's all new, very own text frame? eh?
pretty please?

In-paragraph autonumerated lists
Quite often we have to create numbered lists, each element of which is a separate paragraph with a number or letter in front of it. But sometimes we need to build a long list that will be contained in one paragraph (enumeration), (for example, a) ...; b) ...; ... n) ... or 1) ...; 2) ...; ... 999). ). When such a list is being edited (its parts are added or deleted), such indexes also need to be edited manually, which takes a lot of time.
My idea is to add a new marker type (such as a page number…

Glossary
Microsoft Word had a really neat Glossary entry feature which allowed you to store your most commonly used words/phrases, and call them up with a key command. I have dumped Word in favor of using InDesign for all my word processing, since I can have style sheets and do everything else I want inside this wonderful program…except glossary feature. I don't know if that would add too much clutter to InDesign, which I wouldn't like, but if it could be added on, wow, would that be a powerful feature.

Trim dimension text variable
Client: “THIS IS THE WRONG SIZE!”
Designer: “But I put the trim dimension text variable in the slug area! Oh, right. There is no trim dimension text variable.”

License official German dictionary (Duden) for InDesign
I would like to see the official German dictionary integrated into InDesign. There's a full blown and powerful spellcheck solution already available, you just need to license it. http://www.epc.de/unsere-loesungen/duden-korrektor-fuer-adobe-indesign-und-incopy

Obsessive Compulsive Feature - Text averaging for scaled text boxes
When scaling a text box and contents the final type size ends up with sizes with super detailed decimal places; e.g 12.345pt
arrrrgh!!
Don't you realise that many designers are OCD inclined? Whole size text numbers help us feel good. Please don't ask why.
Suggest a scaling preference that allows users to round-off scaled text to nearest desired text increment, e.g nearest whole number or No of decimal places.

Possibility to control Superscript/Subscript, i.e., 40% if >XX font size, 65% if<XX font size
In "Advanced Type" (in settings) I can control Superscript, subscript and Small Caps. Many fonts has got a gigantic and ugly ® (registered trademark) and needs to be shrunk. Sadly, that shrinks the ® in normal body copy too much. It would be great if I could have options in Advanced Type to control it more.
E.g., 40% size and 65% baseline if bigger than 36 pt font size, and some other setting for anything smaller than that size.2 votes -
Option to lock text box position only, with text remaining editable
I would love the ability to lock the position of text boxes in a layout, while still allowing editing of the text contents. (Similar to the multiple types of layer lock in Photoshop).
This would be useful for the template documents I make and then share with collaborators. Other users edit the text, but sometimes accidentally nudge text boxes out of place that should be consistent in placement. I use Object Styles to check placement, but it's time-consuming to check each text box in a document with 100+ pages.

Find/Change Apply to Anchored Text Boxes
Find/change should be able to include any text boxes anchored in the search of a text box/story/selection. I use anchored text box objects in tables a lot, and on occasion, it would be helpful to be able to make a change to all the text with a certain paragraph style in a story, but not in the whole document. But with anchored objects, find/change won't see any text in anchored objects if you select the text box with the anchors, and you can't select multiple anchored objects at the same time. This makes it impossible/useless to find/change multiple text items…

Idea to create a simpler way to type on path with ellipse / circle
I wish you could create a better and simpler way to type on path, especially on ellipses / circles. It's SUPER difficult when you have to work with multiple lines in a circle, like we used to on a CD for example.
My pitch:
What if we could treat typing on path like a text box? So you draw the ellipse / shape from the Type on Path menu, and the text automatically gets treated as if Typing on a line / shape?
And when you press Return, it behaves like it would in a paragraph (text going to the…2 votes -

Paragraph styles frustrations
When creating a paragraph style from an existing one, please let InDesign automatically select the new one to edit, or at least let it retain the adjustments we made to the existing one. Because many times I edit the styling of text, then make a new paragraph style, only to find out I was still styling on the previous style, and not "New Paragraph 1."
OR
Let us be able to highlight the paragraph style we want to redefine, without applying the style to the text.
Sometimes all we want is to highlight copy in the document, and right-click on…

Overhaul Bullets and Numbering and add features to make it useful.
Right now the bullets and numbering features are so limited and feel like an afterthought. Here is what I need in order of importance:
The ability to format bullets/numbers so they ignore extra line spaces.
The ability to align the bullets to the center. When one bullet's verbiage is longer than one line of text the bullet stays on the first line, what I need is for the bullet to be centered with all of the lines of text in that bullet, so if you had a bullet that was three lines long, the bullet would be centered to the…
