  1. Adobe's out-of-date "Check Spelling" system

For long documents, every copy-conscious designer uses InDesign's "Check Spelling" feature. I think we can all agree it can be improved; the functionality and interface have changed very little since InDesign's inception.

We need an "Ignore Capitalization" button/feature:

InDesign users spend most of their spell-check time clicking the "Skip" or "Ignore All" buttons: skipping capitalization issues (where there are forced line breaks or lead-in lines styled in all caps, making the uncapped offender a benign issue), skipping proper names, skipping the plural and possessive versions of words we've already confirmed as legitimate. Why aren't there buttons for "Ignore Capitalization" and…

  2. Layered Fonts

Please do provide a tool to implement layered fonts. The tool would need to:
    - be able to automatically superimpose different layers of a font with different styles (color etc.) in the same place, or in a slight interval to create a shadow-effect
    - be applicable to initials (as this is a very common use for layered fonts)

  3. Multilanguage Bullets in English Version for languages that do not have a native In Design Application

Please make an option for the bullets that are alphabetic to be able to change them in another language. I.E. a,b,c,d, to be able to change into let's say Greek α,β,γ,δ.

  4. Copy & paste formatted text between apps

It is beyond baffling that Adobe is so incompetent they have not been able to implement a way to copy and paste formatted text between their own applications. There can only be two reasons we can’t copy and paste formatted text between (for example) Illustrator and InDesign: Either Adobe is unwilling to add this feature or Adobe is incapable of adding this feature.

Even a way to save formatted text between programs then place it would be an improvement over the nothing we have now.

  5. In World-ready Composer mode, Using kinsoku settings as in CJK composer

In Korea (or Japan or China), We use CJK composer with kinsoku.
But sometimes we have to use World-ready Composer when we insert a right-to-left word (such as Hebrew word) in paragraph.
Then we have no choice but to abandon kinsoku.

So I and many Korean designers want to use kinsoku in World-ready Composer (or in CJK composer, to use right-to-left script function in Hebrew, Aribic, etc., as in World-ready Composer).

  6. Make "split column" widths flexible

I use split-and-span columns frequently in my work. Often, with lists of names, I'll have that one name in a column that is just too long and wants to wrap. If I could adjust the column width after using the split-columns, that would be very helpful. As it is, I either have to decrease the type size or increase the right side margin, which messes with the body text width. I don't want to create a separate text frame as this is too common an occurrence in my work, and I'd have to be dragging and anchoring all over the…

  7. Link font size value between paragraph style

Add the feature to set the font size (and other value) as percentage, based on a "root" style. For example: create a "root" paragraph style with the size font set to 10 pt. Create a new paragraph style "first" based on "root" style and set the font size value to 110%. (=11pt). If the the font size of "root" style change, automatically change the font dimensioni in "first" style proportionally. Like the in the CSS language.

  8. Change colour of text dependent on immediate background colour

Some of my jobs involve text being placed on a background image or company logo. Often,, this background has wildly contrasting colours/shades and the text immediately in front of it becomes invisible. I then change the colour of that text from, say, black to white, to render it visible again.

Unfortunately, if there are then any amendments to the text, the white text now lies over a light background and becomes invisible. Currently, I just go over the text with a beady eye and make the amendments accordingly.

Is it, would it, be possible for there to be a script,…

  9. Allow the use of World-Ready composers and Japanese composers in the same document.

Allow the use of World-Ready composers and Japanese composers in the same document so that someone can typeset in every language in the same file. At the moment you have to choose between ME/NA or CJK versions of InDesign.

  10. RTL in all versions of InDesign, not just the Middle Eastern version.

It is ridiculous that I have to install a completely different regional version of InDesign to get access to RTL. Apart from the addition of an RTL/LTR button and a drop down specially from Arabic, what is the difference other than the default language?

  11. Tracking: highlight tight and loose lines with two colours

I typeset books and it is often useful to see at a glance where text can be tweaked in order to make or lose a line. Having two colours would make it much quicker and easier to identify affected lines. Being able to modify the colours would be a bonus.

  12. Paragraph Rules in Find/Change and a new Panel?

Please add Paragraph Rules to the Find Change dialog box. I often need to change rule thickness or color to paragraph rules that are not in a paragraph or character style. Manually changing each selection takes quite a bit of time and should be automated.

A floating/dockable paragraph rules panel would be helpful when having to change a file with multiple paragraph rules applied manually and not in a style. As it is now I have to select each instance and open the dialog box and change the rule settings.

Also, please show both rule above and below at the…

  13. Option to hide fonts

One thing that I would love to see is a hide button that allows you to hide rarely used and/or system fonts from the main list. Having to scroll through a large list of often useless or irrelevant fonts, to find the ones that might work for your project tends to be frustrating and inefficient, especially in an application meant for text and document layout. Having an option to reduce the amount of visual clutter, would make for a better user experience and more effective workflows. The document is a quick mockup I made to show what it might look…

  14. spell check - add option to limit to one layer

Please, please add an option to limit spell check to one layer only throughout the document - for example the currently chosen layer or the layer with a specified language. When doing translations of children books we need to work with two text layers - one for the original layer and one for the translation. When running spell check at the end of a translation it is always highly annoying to have Indesign jump randomly between the layers resp. languages. This bug renders spell check almost useless for translation-projects as Indesign usually chooses to stay in the wrong layer. Btw:…

  15. Update the dictionary in all languages

Hi! Make updates to the the dictionaries part of the updates that come down from creative cloud. Or make it easier for a user to update their own dictionary. Words like coronavirus should be included, these are easily spell checked with Google but not in InDesign.

  16. Forced line-breaks converts to a space in running header

Forced line breaks are converted to a space character when displayed as a running header.

This will often show up as multiple spaces in the running header.

Forced line breaks, should simply be removed.

  17. Sorting alphabetically (A-Z) and all other languages

This is very important feature for any application deal with text and books.
i think i don't need to mention that other applications like Ms word have that option.

it is really important that InDesign should have sorting option for paragraphs/text and tables.

it is disappointed that in that time still sorting options is not exist in InDesign.

  18. Text and Hyperlinks - Tag a Hyperlink visually

The ability to see if a word is hyperlinked on a page with several hyperlinks visually, like you can with an anchor item. There is no way to see if a word is hyperlinked unless you open the Hyperlink panel and go thru the list of all the hyperlinked items on that page. Is there a way to create a visual cue like if the word was misspelled or something like that to quickly know what words are hyperlinked on a page. More of a visual cue to know quickly and also if you hover over the hyperlink, like an…

It would be nice to be able to show/hide the global baseline and textframe baseline individually. At the moment they are turned on and off together which can be pretty hard to navigate.
