  1. Numbered paragraphs don't increment in footnotes

Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server
    14.0.1.209
    Mac OS 10.13.6

    Steps to reproduce the issues
    1. Apply automatic numbering to a paragraph style
    2. Apply that style to footnotes

    Expected result
Each footnote will be properly numbered, starting at 1.

    Actual result
    All footnotes are numbered 1.

In the attached screenshot you can see the third footnote. The indicator is the correct number but the footnote is numbered 1, even though it is the third footnote. Footnote 2 is also numbered 1.

  2. Make OpenType SVG composed glyphs unbreakable

For now combined glyphs can be accidentally broken if they reach end of line.

For example, I add composed glyph 0x261d + 0x1f3fe (☝🏾) It is up pointing hand with skin tone modifier.

    Applied EmojiOne font.

Now i start added dots before is (.........). When glyph reach end of text field, he will be PARTIALLY moved to next line. This moment it will be broken.

I understand why it happens, but this is unexpected behavior.

I think there should be an option in paragraph or character style, that makes glyphs unbreakable.

  3. Functionality to apply kerning before the first letter in a line

Feature Description: This feature should work like in Illustrator or Photoshop (even After Effects can do it). Please see attached screen capture.

    How it should work:
    1. Insert the cursor before the first character in a line
    2. Use the kerning in the character panel or with the shortcuts (ALT + arrow keys)
    3. kerning should be applied

Why: This would be a productivity enhancement and make it much easier to optically align the first letter in a line manually without having to use the Optical Margin alignment that only works for a whole story.

  4. Add the conversion feature for simplified Chinese & traditional Chinese

Highly recommended as it can really speed up production for various countries in the Asia area.

  5. Unequal columns within a single text frame

It would be great if we could define different column widths within a single text frame, making the automatization of sidebars in longer documents easier. Currently, we need to set up differently sized text boxes on the page and link them.

  6. Imported text linked to a document (like Word) where changes can be made and then automatically updated in indesign document

When importing text, we brake the link with the original textual content. I wish we could have the option to keep the imported text linked to its original document so that we can design while some of the content is being modified in a word processor and then updated like any other kind of link and without losing the applied styles.

  7. Allow to add notes to footnotes!

As simple as the heading is to "allow to add notes to footnotes!"
Google Docs, has this option, and and causes problems when importing them with the notes into InDesign, same applies when using DocaFlow

  8. Temporarily disable GREP styles

I'm working on a long document that uses GREP Styles. the applied styles only change the colour of text, so they don’t affect the flow of text. But they sure do slow down the program. I would like to be able to disable the GREP Styles in the paragraph style to speed up the program. The only way to disable GREP Styles is to remove them from the style definition. I duplicated the style to keep a backup of my GREP expressions, but what would be better is a way to individually disable the styles while keeping the expression in…

  10. Speed up baseline setup

Setting up a baseline grid can be easier, I think.

A workflow speed-up like this would be great:

    1) select the basic text
    2) click on a button that does all these things at once:
    - Show baseline grid
    - base the baseline grid on the line height of the selected text without going to the preferences panel (line height, etc.)
    - align the text to the baseline grid

I think this feature is great for newer, and existing Indesign users and can be a great addition to the feature request in this thread:

    https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/32113915-dynamic-baseline-related-unit-of-measurement

  11. Make it one-click to disable USA English across all documents, existing and yet to be created.

Every new document I create defaults to USA English which is time-consuming to change for everyone who does not use this variation of UK English. Please make it a button on the 'New document' window to select default language, and please make it a tick-box in preferences. It could be worded like this for example 'What is your preferred default language?" and then a drop down. Then every document I open will automatically have the correct dictionary applied without any further time spent. Many thanks.

  12. Stop underlining words after dot.

Indesign underlines after the dot the words that begin with small letter. This is wrong in the case of abbreviations. Indesign should either recognize the abbreviation either there must be a way to signal the correctness of the word that begins with small cap.
Example: typing the text " bla bla ex. blah" will result in underlined 'blah'.

  13. option boxes with sizes need different default behavior

for all boxes where you can edit a size, please make the default behavior that when you click in the box to edit the size it selects everything. that way you can just click on the box and put in the new number. If for example a text size is 10px, please when I select the box, select everything so that I can just type in 14 to make the size bigger. If I type in 14, you should just keep it in pixels. Or if I type in 14pts, change it to points. Editing sizes right now is annoying…

  14. Underlining that skips characters with descenders

While it is a last resort in typography, when I do underline I prefer it to be just below the baseline. But this default underline overlaps descenders. Rather than having to lower underlines to avoid these clashes, could the Underline Options panel or another feature detect when an underline will overlap a descender and skip that character? - Thanks!

  15. EXACT ALIGNMENT OF TEXT TO EDGE TEXT BOX

Perfect right and left alignment of text so that all of the end-of-line characters exactly hit the edge of the text box.

This is useful for certain designs that entail perfect geometric type alignment.

See attached screen shot showing the default setting of right aligned text.

  16. Split one text box into multiple text boxes

Split one text box into multiple text boxes at the click of a button. I have a list of text from Excel that I've formatted, but I now need to distribute every word individually around the page. A 20 minute job could be turned into a 1 minute job.

  17. Insert special character — Unicode compliance

Unicode is required to meet accessibility standards and several forms of publishing technologies.

The keyboard shortcuts and right-click/opt-click Insert Special Characters shortcuts need to be updated to insert the Unicode versions of these glyphs.

The Unicode glyph charts are at www.Unicode.org

  18. Keyboard shortcut for inserting Unicode glyphs

Accessibility and other forms of automated publishing require the correct Unicode glyphs.

These glyphs include punctuation, math/science symbols, foreign language characters, and bullets/symbols. In 2000, Unicode became the default character set worldwide across the technology industries.

But we have no way to easily insert these glyphs into InDesign layouts. For example, if I need the math multiplication symbol rather than a lower case "x", I need to either scroll through the glyph dialogue box, or know beforehand the symbol's codepoint 2715 and type it into the Unicode field in the glyph dialogue box.

Too slow! Especially when you have to…

  19. Add unicode categories to the list of available GREP choices

If you've ever had to write out a GREP code and weren't sure of the character, you can click on the @ to call up a list of known codes to choose from while in the find/change menu OR the GREP styles panel.
However, there is a selection that is missing that GREP in InDesign is known to handle, and that is unicode categories:
    https://www.regular-expressions.info/unicode.html
for example, if I type into the GREP find field - right now - the following code:
    \p{Zs}
I know that InDesign's GREP will find all spaces except tabs and returns. However, this isn't an…
