  1. Color-code GREP styles

    Hello, InDesign team.

Please consider allowing users to assign a color to each GREP style, which would be applied as a highlight to text affected by the style. The highlight would, of course, be on-screen only, like the existing highlights for composition problems etc. This would be a quick way to ensure that the style is matching the correct text, without doing what I do now (which is to manually add a color highlight into the definition of each GREP style and then remove them later). Especially helpful for GREP styles whose effect is subtle. Characters affected by multiple GREP…

  2. Add an option to hide Text via caracter format setting

Add a checkbox to the character format settings that allows users to hide text. In some situations it is very useful to use grep rules to hide certain text elements. Until now, the color of the font had to be removed and had to set the size to 0.1.

  3. Find missing characters

Sometimes a character is unavailable and InDesign highlights this with a pink box. However there seems to be no way to Search for these - one has to visually spot them on a page to be able to fix them. Please implement a Find feature

  5. Footnotes and Endnotes

1a. Export as RichTextFormat ... should include Footnotes and Endnotes.
1b. Export as HTML ... should include hyperlinked Footnotes and Endnotes.
1c. Should have option to convert Footnotes and Endnotes to static text. This option should also be available when exporting as per above.
1d. Above exports should also include any images that are part of the text flow, with an option of converting them to JPEG at a particular resolution.
    2. This would save having to muck around with the HTML code, or manually create static endnote numbers.

  6. Increment Settings for Tracking/Kerning Applied to Control Panel Interface

Idea referenced in the link below.

This idea is already implemented in the preferences menu under Units & Increments but it's only applied to keyboard shortcuts. I don't see why this setting wouldn't be included for the tracking and kerning settings in the control panel. As mentioned in the link, needing to let go of the mouse just to adjust tracking is a nuisance.

I never increase tracking by 10 when typesetting to adjust for the rag of a text block. Having the increments hard set to 10 effectively makes the control panel useless to me when typesetting. Oddly this…

  7. Paragraph Rules in Find/Change

Please add Paragraph Rules to the Find Change dialog box. I often need to change rule thickness or color to paragraph rules that are not in a paragraph or character style. Manually changing each selection takes quite a bit of time and should be automated. Thanks!

  8. Add a feature to the paragraph shading or the underlining where you can set the angle. For italic Fonts.

Would be a big relief if you could set an angle in the paragraph shading or the underlining. With this it would be possible to underline an italic Font individually and correctly.
Right now im forced to create a transformed rectangle under the italic Font to underline or highlight it with its angle. I cant do it with underlinings or shadowing for italic Fonts..

  9. Option to add hidden character on/off button the toolbar

Just a little toggle button on the toolbar so you don't have to click Type > Show/Hide Hidden Characters, for those of us who turn it on and off repeatedly. I swear an older version had it.

  10. Clear All Style Sets—Right from the Style Set Menu

Since there are a lot of windows to get to the OpenType Style Sets, we need a button that can clear all the opentype features we've tried out. This can be put into the Stylistic Sets Menu. (See attached picture.)

This isn't just valuable to me. This is valuable to:
    1. Other users can feel free to use style sets, knowing that they can quickly clear all options, not spend minutes clicking through menus—Just to turn something off!
    2. Font designers might add more features into their fonts if the features are easier to use.
    3. You've already made that…

  11. import PDF comments to include Text style

I have cliënts that make comments in PDF. In these comments they add (or replace) text using the correct comment tools. But very often some of the added text needs to be Italic or Bold or ... So they use the Text Style feature in Acrobat to italicize certain words.
But when importing PDF comments, these text styles do not show in InDesign. It would be great if this feature could be added.

  12. Line spacing measured in millimeters

When working with grid systems, measuring the line spacing in millimeters would be practical—similar to the default setting for strokes.

  13. A LIVE word count for booklet files.

Please add a live word count feature for booklet files. I have had to spend a long time copying and pasting to Word to get a total word count for my entire document.

It would be brilliant if there was a live word count at the bottom next to the errors (or simply in the info window) which updates as you type.

While I'm at it, a live spell check would be helpful too.

    Thank you.

  14. Various footnotes options/formatting

When there are two stories in the document (eg. text and translation) with different styles, it's necessary for the footnotes of each one to have different styles also.

  15. A more efficient indexing system for book files.

A more efficient indexing system for book files would be ideal. Also, when using the Index window, it would be great if the window could stay open and allow me to continue entering words. If I don't select desired text, enter index reference, "add all," then close the window, it doesn't populate correctly.
It would be ideal for me to keep the window open, enter desired text (without selecting in the file), click "add all," then continue with more entries .

  16. Global Text Edit Across Multiple File Instances

A way to update one Master File, that populates multiple files.

    One product > multiple instances

By changing text on "1" it would update the same text in the same spot for the different instances "1a,1b,1c"

    1 > 1a > 1b > 1c

  17. Variable font issues with named instances 'Regular' and 'Book'

A variable font including instances named 'Book' and 'Regular' breaks the functionality of the instance 'Regular'. Slider change does not change the weight of the font. The same font works well in Adobe Illustrator.

  19. Make column rules continue in footnotes

If you have a text frame with multiple columns and the footnotes split into columns, the column rules do not continue in the footnotes.

  20. Kurdish Language Spelling

    Hello!
Adobe InDesign has many users writing in and experiencing the Central Kurdish language. People who use this language make up a significant portion of Iraq’s population, which is in the Kurdistan region. Unfortunately, the Kurdish language dictionary isn’t available in InDesign.
I hope you can allow InDesign to add the Kurdish language dictionary as an option for users who are writing in this language.
Or, if you could create a translation web page to add the Kurdish language phrase and sentence spellings in Adobe InDesign and other Adobe products, that would be most appreciated.
    Thank you.
