  1. Accessibility—PDF Export Preset

In PRINT PDF export options, we have the option of saving settings as JobOptions which can be selected in the future from a drop-down menu.

Need the same capability in INTERACTIVE PDF export options, too.

And we also need preset for accessibility from both PRINT and INTERACTIVE PDF exports, one that ships and installs with InDesign and PDF Maker (MS Office) to automatically set the options for tagging and tab order.

  2. Form Field Calculations in InDesign

With InDesign's form tools, we're missing the ability to add calculations to form fields in InDesign, and that task must be done manually in Acrobat.

To start, I'd like to be able to build simple calcs into my InDesign forms. Example:

And expense report has a form field for each day of the week, and then a total for all of the days. Would like a simple summation calc that I could use for rows of fields or columns of fields. Or both!

Another example: multiplication of quantity times price. Or multiplication of 5% sales tax on an amount field.

  3. Accessibility—Artifact tables for layout, but keep their content

Sometimes designers use a table for layout purposes, not for a traditional spreadsheet-like matrix data in columns and rows.

Example: A table that creates a complex, multi-celled form. For layout, it's easier to create rows and columns to hold the form labels and form control fields.

However, when the form is exported to PDF, the table structure itself is not needed and often gets in the way of many assistive technologies.

Need a way to artifact the table structure itself, but retain the content within the table as live text and form fields. And of course, have it correctly tagged…

  4. Artifacting Master Page Items—accessibility

Within the past year, Adobe InDesign changed the way it handles items on a master page when the file is exported to accessible PDF.

We used to be able to control each MP item and designate whether it was artifacted or kept live and tagged in the PDF reading orders. BUT, in recent versions of InDesign, EVERYTHING on the MP is automatically artifacted and we have no control over this.

This fowls up workflows where some MP items must be kept live, tagged, and in the PDF's reading order, such as the project I'm working (series of fact sheets for…

  5. Outline type when exporting PDF

For various reasons, I export most of my high-res PDFs with the type outlined. Once a piece is finalized, I'll duplicate any pages in the file, then outline the type before exporting. It's not ideal (it confuses anyone new who comes in and has to work with our files), but it works.

The downfall is that, if there are any links using live type, that won't get outlined. And if it's a multi-page document, we wind up with a LOT of outlining and a ton of pages.

It would be AMAZING if InDesign included the option to outline all type…

  6. Text box on different place in PDF vs. InDesign doc

A colored text box moved 1,5mm from the position in InDesign-file to the position in the exported PDF. I had 8 versions of this file and in one it appeared on a different place in the PDF. When printing with only black plate changed, the the text was 1.5 mm lower in black. Is there a solution? Is this a bug? 80.000 printed pcs. to the trash and 4 new plates to solve the problem. Any help?
    tnx, Dirk

  7. Please allow for more than 1 inch of Offset for Printer's Marks when exporting PDFs

Some vendors require more than 1" of bleed, especially on larger format layouts.
Currently have to build layouts at reduced size to accomplish this.

  8. PDF Export improvement

Great news that it is now possible to export multi page file as separate PDFs. However that automatically created (not optional) subfolder is unnecessary.

  9. Enhance the new Suffix feature for exporting single Pages or single Spreads as PDF

The new Suffix feature allows three parameters: ^#, ^P and ^S. So far so good.
To make the feature complete I would suggest a couple of other parameters:

    ^N for page names
    Page names like i, ii, iii or a, b, c or 001, 002, 003 would be possible.
Also names like 200 for the first page in a document that starts with 200 for page one.

^X for section prefixes ( max. of 8 characters )

^A for names of Alternate Layouts

    ^W for width of page

    ^H for height of page

    ^Pt , ^mm, ^In etc.pp. for unit…

  10. Tagged form fields failed Accessibility checker options

Form fields tags aren't exporting properly for tagged pdfs in the newest Indesign 2018 (13.0.1). The tags won't show up in the file therefore not allowing the pdfs to pass the accessibility checker. There are no issues when exporting as tagged pdf from the 2017 CC.

I am frustrated with recognition for fields export from 2018 to pdf. I have been avoiding using 2018 for this reason. When you talk to Adobe you have to speak to an indesign specialist or a Adobe Acrobat specialist and neither one knows the other program!!! The Adobe expert tells me how to fix…

  11. Allow us to create PDF (or postscript file) for thumbnails.

Currently InDesign will not let me create a PDF of thumbnails for a document. This would be valuable because I could then send a compact PDF file to a colleague for layout review, before sending the full PDF.

Alternatively, allow the creation of a PostScript file. Right now, if I try do do it in the printer menu, it disables the thumbnails options; if I try to use it via the Printer… button, it seems to work — even asking me to pick the filename — but does not create the PS file.

My PDF will not export. It hits 35% then stops. I can't even use a new doc to export. Background task is moving. I know this is an issue other people have dealt with but I want to put it on record.

  13. Export PDF Booklet

Instead of having to do "File>Print Booklet" and hassling with making a post script file and making a PDF from that (which doesn't ever seem to work the right way for me) there should be an option to export a booklet PDF. So many of the printers I work with request a booklet PDF and it would make everything so much easier if there was this option.

  14. Restrict PDF-export to predefined presets

Allow administrators to setup Indesign, restricting/forcing users to only be able to use predefined PDF-export presets, without the option to deviate from these settings

  15. Disable PDF export override

Administrators should be able to disable PDF-export overrides. By doing this, during the export pdf process, users should only be able to select a PDF-export preset, but not be able to change the predefined settings.

  19. Shutterstock watermark alert

The Shutterstock plugin is a great tool for easy access to the image database. Drag and drop the desirable picture into the lay-out.
It would help if watermark pictures would be detected while exporting to pdf.

  20. Scaleable exporting PDF

For many 'big print' applications, you need to upload your design in 100% off the format. But, in many cases, your design is made in 1:10 scale for better cross design, workflow and speed of Indesign.

It would be nice to 'export' your file in a scale. So that your Indesign doc remains the 1:10 scale (or else) and your PDF can easily be twice or ten times bigger. This is very handy for roll-up banner, screens, walls etc. You can say that Indesign should not be the right application for big print. But if i want that the brochure,…
